It’s been awhile since Toho has released a new Godzilla game. While the King of the Monsters has popped up in various collabs of late, and Godzilla Battle Line still sees frequent updates, an outright new game hasn’t come out since 2021. That’s all going to change. Today, Toho has announced a new upcoming video game called Godzilla Voxel Wars. Sold through Steam, the game will be playable across various PCs.

Beyond being announced, a gameplay trailer has also been released on the title.

A strategy based game, Godzilla Voxel Wars has very stylized graphics. This gives the title a toy-like appearance, which is solidified with the backgrounds that look like a kid’s room. Battles take place on an 8×8 map that monsters move across. Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla, Biollante, and more have already been shown. In fact, due to the stylized graphics, it’s a little hard to tell what other familiar Toho characters might have already been shown off.

As for the enemy, they are creatures called Fungoids. These mushroom-like creatures, not to be confused with the Matango, are trying to rule the world. Godzilla and other kaiju try to battle them back in turn based combat.

Six different worlds are included, along with the ability to create your own maps. The goal is to wipe out the Fungoids in as few turns as possible.

The game will come out in November, 2023. No specific date is available at this time. Despite coming out this year, the game is being touted as celebrating Godzilla’s 70th anniversary, which is in 2024.

Godzilla Voxel Wars is being co-developed by Toho Games and Nukenin. The game’s designer is Ken Watabe, who comes from Nukenin. His past experience was actually working at Nintendo, where he was attached to various titles like Pikmin 3 and Splatoon. He left to work on Nukenin in 2015. Music for the game will be handled by Daisuke Shiiba, whose past soundtracks include Tomodachi Collection, Excitebike: World Rally, the pixel remastered Final Fantasy games and more.
