June 16, 2026 update

More news continues to emerge regarding Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered. One of the biggest updates comes from an interview between GamingTrend and Ethan Stearns, VP of Game Publishing at Atari. While the video is of them playing an alpha build of the game, this isn’t shown as it loops the existing trailer rather than showcasing new gameplay footage. However, the discussion reveals several new details about the upcoming release.

Stearns confirmed that Survival Mode will be returning, a feature that had received little attention in previous coverage. He also mentioned that stages will include both day and night variations, a returning feature from the original game, along with a new “hazy mode.” During the interview, he also ran through several members of the roster, including King Ghidorah, Rodan, Kiryu, Mecha-King Ghidorah, Destoroyah, Mechagodzilla, and Orga. He specifically noted that Mechagodzilla has been changed from the Heisei version to the Showa version, describing it as “the one change that [they] made.”

The interview also mentions a PlayStation 4 release, which had not previously been announced. However, this may have been a mistake, as the accompanying GamingTrend article does not list the game as coming to that platform.

Speaking of the article, it notes the returning stages from the GameCube version include San Francisco, Seattle, Tokyo, London, Los Angeles, Monster Island, Osaka, Japan and The Mothership. It remains unknown whether the Xbox-exclusive stages from the original Xbox release will be included. It also reiterates the roster Stearns mentioned in the interview while adding in Godzilla Heisei, Godzilla 2000, Anguirus, Gigan and Megalon to cover the remaining cast.

The article also confirms cross-platform play, along with an exciting new local co-op mode. Additional additions include achievements and a new single-player campaign for each kaiju, replacing the arcade ladder structure from the original release (assumed to be referring to Adventure Mode in the original).

The article talks more about the previously announced “Destroy Mode,” which replaces Destruction Mode. This will be a destruction-focused mode where players earn points by leveling cities and then use those points to upgrade their kaiju’s stats and skills. The unlock system has also been redesigned, with characters, maps and gallery items now unlocked through in-game currency earned across the various modes rather than solely through campaign completion.

In addition to these details, Deku Deals has listed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version will include the complete game on the cartridge rather than using a Game Key Card format, which would require players to download the game before it could be played.

Finally, the trailer has been taken down from the official account. It’s unknown why, although possibly could be because it used the wrong Mechagodzilla roar for the Showa version. Regardless, a link from IGN has been used below to still feature the trailer.

June 11, 2026 update

Early impressions are already coming out for the game, from PCMag and TechRaptor, who played the title at Summer Game Fest 2026. Inven Global also has some expanded news on the title, including a new still of Showa Mechagodzilla although at low resolution. They seem to confirm that this version of the robotic monster is replacing the Heisei Mechagodzilla, although make the interesting claim that it was “incorrectly applied in the original release”. More likely the rep at Atari paraphrased, as it’s been clarified on the forums that characters back then were amalgams of their various iterations, although Mechagodzilla’s moveset just happened to lean more into his Showa counterpart then Heisei, even if it has moves like the Plasma Grenade. Additional details from the article include that the game will feature:

  • Campaign Mode
  • Destroy Mode – Earn points by destroying cities to level up monsters and improve their stats and skills
  • Tournament Mode – Supports up to four players
  • Maps are being made larger to better accommodate four player bouts
  • Online Multiplayer – Features 2-player online matches against random opponents or friends through the lobby system

It also notes that following final approval from Toho for distribution in Korea and Japan, the possibility of adding Korean language support is currently under review.
