Released as part of Jade City Foods’ series 2 wave of Godzilla hot sauces comes the Gigan Cybernetic Slasher. This hot sauce comes in two variants, a “standard” edition and a limited edition that was done for Gigan’s 50th anniversary. This will be my second of the hot sauces that I’ll have tried, with the first being the Biollante Mutated Rose Hot Sauce.
Anyway, let’s dive in and review Gigan’s hot sauce, also referred to as a yellow ghost pepper serrano hot sauce.
Heat
Now before talking about the heat, I do want to talk about the bottle. As noted, the Biollante hot sauce was the first of these that I tried. That one was a little watery, but came with a bottle dripper (I’ve also seen these sometimes referred to as a bottle reducer). That helped to prevent one from accidentally drowning their food in the hot sauce and in general control how much you pour. I assumed that might be a standard feature on Jade City Foods’ hot sauces. Sadly, the Gigan Cybernetic Slasher hot sauce, despite also being watery, has no such dripper. As a result, be careful as it’s all too easy to douse your food in it.
That out of the way, in terms of heat this hot sauce is ranked as a 9/10 (really 11, as some go that high) by Jade City Foods. After Biollante’s was a 7, I was quite curious how hot this one might be. Again, as a bit of reference, I really enjoy spicy food and hot sauces. Hot sauces with ghost peppers and habaneros in particular tend to be my favorite. For this one, I would actually say the level of heat was probably perfect. It’s a level of heat where you can continually enjoy it without having to pace yourself while still getting the burning sensation. A stark contrast to some other hot sauces I’m currently enjoying that do occasionally kick my ass so I have to take a slight pause, such as Hot Ones’ The Last Dab which accidentally made a cameo in this shot of Gigan’s sauce on a fajita.
Speaking of, my hot sauce “vehicles” of choice were three fold:
- fajitas that are pictured above
- lightly air fried chicken which is pictured below
- lettuce that is not pictured… because it’s lettuce
It worked really well in the fajita, both from a heat but also taste perspective. It also paired well, although not as well, with the chicken. Meanwhile the lettuce just allowed me to get a sense of the overall heat without “distractions”.
Taste: Shake It
Learning from the Biollante hot sauce, and seeing a more clear layer at the top, I immediately shook this one up before tasting. So I don’t have a reaction with or without shaking, but assume that’s the way to enjoy it.
With this sauce, I will admit I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. Although far down on the ingredients, the lime flavor really comes through to make this quite tasty. That added a lot to the taste when having it inside a fajita. What I particularly enjoyed, although not shocking as the ingredient is dead last, is that this one didn’t have a vinegar tang to it despite featuring it.
Cybernetic Slasher Hot Sauce Ingredients
The ingredients of the Gigan branded hot sauce are as follows, and found in this order on the bottle:
Serrano, jalapeno, onion, garlic, yellow ghost [pepper], lime juice, salt, vinegar
Now I’m still somewhat new to Jade City Foods’ Godzilla hot sauce line. So while I do want to point out and also praise the lack of calories here, I’m pretty sure that’s standard across their hot sauces for the King of the Monsters. In fact, looking at all the ones I have, not only do they all have zero calories but they also all have the same exact sodium level of 100mg.
Final Thoughts
I thought this one was a winner. Really good flavor and heat profile, for sure a hot sauce that won’t last for long in my kitchen. That’s a big contrast to the Biollante one, that kind of lingered. Anyway, I’m really curious what their 10 and 11 level hot sauces are like now, having had the 9.
As a side note, the Gigan Cybernetic Slasher hot sauce also has a limited edition variant that was created for Gigan’s 50th anniversary. That’s not the version that was reviewed here, but ingredients are the same and mileage should be the same except for the different packaging. The limited edition design can be seen below and, while it might date the review, can currently be ordered here. For those curious on the regular edition, that can be ordered here.
