Today I’m interviewing the founder of Ghost X Ghost, Brock Otterbacher, about the new Godzilla merchandise line!
Chris Mirjahangir: Tell me about Ghost X Ghost and how you came to work with Toho.
Brock Otterbacher: Ghost X Ghost is a limited edition apparel brand combining metal, punk, skater, anime, and a bit of street into something we think is unique. Eventually we’ll be moving into other things, like music and collectibles, but for now, we’re focused on apparel.
As for how we came to work with Toho- this is because I worked with them before! I was the founder and Creative Director of Mondo’s Toy & Collectible department. So stuff like the larger Godzilla and Mothra statues they put out have my grubby fingerprints all over them. When I started GXG, Toho was the first license that I wanted to work on. Specifically they were the first I thought of when I started developing a line of shirts that hasn’t been announced yet. 😉

Mirjahangir: Apparel-wise, will you be producing shirts/hoodies or will you expand into other areas like hats/beanies, etc.?
Otterbacher: Apparel-wise, just shirts and hoodies to start. I’m not much of a hat person, though I do like beanies especially for when I leave the house and don’t feel like combing my hair. So maybe some of those in the future?
Mirjahangir: For the original art being created, who are some of the artists you’ll be working with?
Otterbacher: For original art, I have to be careful what I say here, as I don’t want to give away too much, but some peeps we’re working with are- Scarecrowoven, Sam Turner, Christophe Szpajdel, Matt Ryan Tobin, and Florian Bertmer. One of those is a massive hint.

Mirjahangir: What is it like to work with Toho?
Otterbacher: Toho is great! They have a lean & mean team over there, and I appreciate them “getting” me when pitching the wild stuff that I did. And I love a licensor that can pitch great stuff back. That’s Toho.
Mirjahangir: What can you say about the posters and pins being made?
Otterbacher: What can I say about posters & pins? Not much, as they’re tied to the unannounced line I mentioned. But what I will say is that the first poster out the gate should look amazing under a black light.
