  • Sometime around the middle of this year, well known Toho Kingdom Staff Member and friend, Chris Mirjahangir, casually asked me in conversation if I would have interest in attending the United States premiere of Godzilla Minus One, should such an event occur? Without hesitation I responded with an enthusiastic “YES!”

Flash forward to the rainy morning of November 9th, and I found myself waiting in line at my local airport of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport for a flight bond for Los Angeles California, where the very next day I would be attending the official Hollywood hosted, U.S. Premiere of Toho’s newest Godzilla film, Godzilla Minus One. To say I was in a state of shock would be an understatement. That sense of shock and excitement still hasn’t quite left me yet and if I’m honest, I hope they never do.

Developer and publisher Passion Republic Games have announced an official collaboration between Godzilla and GigaBash, their debut release game. • In an unexpected surprise, Fathom Events has announced a follow up to 2022’s Godzilla Day Showings of Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla with another Godzilla theatrical event featuring the first theatrical wide U.S. release of 2003’s Godzilla: Tokyo SOS.

Much like the prior event, the March 22nd, 2023 screening will feature a special addition of another official Toho approved Godzilla short film, Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex, which serves to further entice fans to attend this event at their local theater.

While I know may fans such as myself will be attending this event, I can’t help but wonder why this event is happening early in the year in March. I personally would have expected this event to happen on the traditional Godzilla Day date of November 3rd. With Godzilla’s 68th Anniversary happening this year, surely Fathom would want another Godzilla Day Event in November. Perhaps something else is planned featuring a different Godzilla film? It’s worth noting that November 3rd, 2023 is the date currently set by Toho for the release of their next live action Godzilla film. Perhaps Fathom wanted to push Godzilla: Tokyo SOS forward to clear their November schedule? Only time will tell, but for now, Godzilla fans can purchase their ticket for the March 23rd Fathom Events Godzilla: Tokyo SOS screening at the following link.

  • In a move reminiscent of last year’s live action Godzilla vs. Hedorah short film, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of Hedorah’s debut, Toho has announced a new short film. This time the mini production will celebrate 50 years of the sickle clawed fan favorite: Gigan! Unlike last year’s anniversary release, this short will be a completely CGI created endeavor and is made without using traditional tokusatsu effects. In interesting twist this anniversary film will also serve as a sequel to a previous Godzilla fan film titled G vs. G. That short, with a minute version to be seen here, was made for and entered into a Godzilla fan film contest through Gemstone back in 2019. The short was directed by Kaminishi Takuya with the effects credited to Yamane Hikari.

  • Let’s take care of the elephant in the room right away. I like GODZILLA 1998. Yes as a Godzilla fan I could make a minute by minute commentary with everything wrong with the film. Godzilla is too weak. Godzilla should breathe radioactive fire. Godzilla never runs from a fight. But what can I say? I was the target demographic for the film when it came out. I remember the ads, the young adult novel, my first Godzilla toy was a Trendmasters Godzilla 1998 figure. It’s a massive part of my childhood and its because of that movie that I was introduced to Godzilla proper. (more…)

  • Godzilla King of the Monsters is a unique item. Originally released on Wonderland Records in 1977 and re-released on CD in 1998 by Golden Drive Records, Godzilla King of the Monsters is an audio drama consisting of two stories. The cover of the 1998 CD copy that I have features the famous Herb Trimpe cover artwork from Marvel’s comic book Godzilla King of the Monsters issue #1. These stories are roughly thirteen minutes in length and clearly aimed at younger children. My CD copy also features a track called Godzilla Vs. Gomi (Monster Music Mix) which is a bizarre remix of dialog and sound effects from the stories set to a music track and I personally didn’t like it. (more…)

  • I’ve had the privilege of attending a few Comic Book, Horror, and Science Fiction conventions here in my local town of Dallas Texas. The month of May in 2017 saw the arrival of the new Famous Monsters Convention here named after the beloved fan magazine, Famous Monsters of Filmland. This was the first convention here in my home town that was dedicated to monsters as opposed to a general science fiction or horror theme. For a first time convention Famous Monsters Convention Dallas hosted an impressive list of guests. Ricou Browning who played The Creature from the Black Lagoon in the original Universal classic films, Sara Karloff the daughter of Boris Karloff, and even Sean S. Cunningham the creator of Jason Voorhees and the Friday the 13th franchise. (more…)

  • Around this time last year I was very blessed to meet the awesome Akira Takarada while visiting Dallas Comic Con a local comic book convention, and cover that event for Toho Kingdom by writing an article detailing the convention for my fellow Godzilla fans. In concluding that article I wrote that I hopped to see them follow up their success with Mr. Takarada by adding more Godzilla or Kaiju related guests. My expectations were blown away when this year’s convention, (renamed to Fan Expo Dallas 2015) added the most impressive lineup of Godzilla related celebrities I’ve ever been blessed to see invade my home town with the lineup of Haruo Nakajima, Kenpachiro Satsuma, Tsutomu Kitagawa, and Shinji Nishikawa! • I’ve been both a Godzilla fan for most of my life and a native Texan for all of it. While I was able to find a few like minded G Fans, and Godzilla related merchandise would show up in local comic book and toy stores from time to time, there was never any Godzilla related events to attend in Texas for most of my life. However as I grew older and became more involved in online communities I began to learn of events that appealed to my love of science fiction in general. (more…)
