In the year 1999, the
world was advancing to a dimension of technology
which, in the past, could only be found in the
furthest stretches of our imagination. Space, that
infinite void of darkness speckled by the lights
of stellar bodies trillions of miles away, was
only just welcoming the newcomers known as humans
to the celestial plane. While the closest reaches
of our orbit had long cradled artificial satellites
of numerous varieties, the true mettle of our versatility
and intellect was realized upon the creation of
the UNSC Moon Base.
Situated on the vast, craggy
plains of the inhospitable lunar surface, the Moon
Base served as both a scientific and military force,
playing host to the well-armed, remarkable translunar
vessel: the Moonlight SY-3. In fact, it was in
the halls of this futuristic facility that Captain
Katsuo Yamabe first learned of the horror breaking
lose on the Earth's surface so many miles away.
An alien race, inhabiting a small planetoid between
Mars and Jupiter known as Kilaakian, feverishly
desired to colonize Planet Earth, and their weapon
of choice was a force now all-too-familiar to human
civilization: the many monsters of the atomic age.
Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and more than a half-dozen
other highly destructive creatures were ordered
to annihilate the major cities of the world. Planet
Earth was held hostage at the mercy of a sinister
invading force, and in response, the Moonlight
SY-3 was ordered to leave the UNSC Moon Base in
order to further investigate the escalating crisis.
Little
did anyone realize that the control mechanism,
which the aliens had utilized to wreck havoc on
the world, was in fact located on the moon! When
this truth was discovered, the SY-3 soared to the
source of the mind-controlling signal in the Cassini
Crater. The transmitter was destroyed, shining
the first ray of light onto an increasingly grim
situation. The monsters were then placed under
human control; the Kilaaks' weapons: King Ghidorah
and the Fire Dragon UFO, were vanquished; and the
Earth-based alien fortress was completely decimated.
As
peace returned to the world below, the Moon Base
stood thousands of miles above, ever-vigilant if
the threat should ever arise once more.
