Description

A multi-purpose transport, the Garoga Flying Saucer was a versatile mid-sized Garoga craft used as troop transport and mobile command center.

A specially-modified model for Operation Dark 4 was outfitted with the technology to hijack Smokey. This enabled the giant ship to draw the smaller craft to it before opening its capture bay doors to bring it inside. Once seized, the craft was brought to the distant planet of Bulgar as a trap: awaiting Zone Fighter was the monster Balgaras. Despite this sinister plot, though, the Zone Family were able to recover their vehicle and defeat the giant creature.

The standard model was used as a transport by the VIP Lord White, a peer of Baron Garoga. It was also utilized as transport for a number of Garoga lieutenants and troops during the invasion. A side hatch in the vessel could disgorge its Garoga troops across the surface of whatever unfortunate planet the Garoga Station landed on.

Powers / Weapons
Flight

Flight

Once inside the Earth's atmosphere, the craft could fly the alien invaders around.

The ship featured multiple engines, with the ability to propel itself forward or up and down using the engines located at the bottom of the vehicle. This allowed vertical take off and landing capabilities. It's unknown if all crafts were outfitted with this, as it's located where the tractor beam was fired.

Space Travel

Space Travel

The Garoga Flying Saucer could travel through the blackness of space.

Interplanetary travel was possible thanks to this. In fact the ship traveled from near Earth's atmosphere all the way to the distant planet of Bulgar, outside of Earth's solar system.

Tractor Beam

At the base of the craft was a device able to emit an invisible tractor beam for drawing smaller craft into its capture bay. Once the target was in range, it could open to receive a fighter-sized craft into the bay. This beam was emitted from the doors of the bay itself.

It is unknown if the standard model had a similar feature, as this is located in the same place that the additional engines for vertical take off and landing are found.

Background and Trivia
  • The ship is noted as a "Garoga Flying Saucer" (ガロガ円盤 - Garoga Enban) in the Toho Special Effects: All Kaiju Illustrated Encyclopedia (ISBN: 9784096820902). An alternate translation for this could be "Garoga Disk".
  • In the show the craft is actually refered to as a "Garoga Station", not to be confused with the gigantic Garoga Space Station from the series.
  • The ship was a transport capable of carrying at least five Garoga.
  • The first time the ship is seen is in episode 17 of Zone Fighter. In this episode the craft uses its tractor beam and visually has a very different bottom of the craft, as in later episode it is shown to have engines here. It's possible it's the same craft and could switch between these, or they were different models.

Sound Effect

Description

A vessel used primarily by the Garoga High Command, and thus little glimpsed within the Earth invasion-force. This shuttle shared many design traits with the Garoga Flying Saucer transport, but had a narrower, more-squared body and a differing paint scheme. It served as a transport for the Cobalt Garoga-X Squadron when they arrived to aid the Garoga invasion of Earth.

Space Travel

The Garoga-X Flying Saucer was able to travel through space, seen docking at the giant Garoga Space Station.

The craft was not seen demonstrating any other abilities, although likely could fly within the Earth's atmosphere as well since the base Flying Saucer model could.

Background and Trivia
  • From December 19th, 2018, to January 27th, 2019, a Godzilla: DNA Exhibition was held in Tokyo. Among many Godzilla items, the event also featured several surviving props from the Zone Fighter (1973) TV show on display. One piece of history was this craft, which had a name card calling it a "Garoga Alien Flying Saucer" (ガロガバラン星人 円盤 - Garogabaran Hoshi Enban). However, this name is the same as the main craft seen in the show. To keep them apart, the name "Garoga-X Flying Saucer" is being used, although this name is a construct by Toho Kingdom based on the fact that it was only seen as the transport for the Cobalt Garoga-X Squadron.
