The next step in directed-energy weaponry, the
MBAW-93 employed twin cannons in an effort to
deliver an improved payload over its predecessor,
the MBT-92. Though a logical next-step in particle
beam technology, the true litmus test of its potency
would be its deployment against Battra's larval
form. As the ominous insect devastated the coastal
city of Nagoya, the MBAW-93 and MBT-92 unleashed
searing streams of energy at the invading monster.
Much to the chagrin of the Self-Defense Force,
the gargantuan arthropod was unharmed as the rays
harmlessly washed over its exoskeletal armor.
Prism beams emanating from the dark moth's horn
and eyes would prove to be a cocktail of power
too overwhelming for the energy tanks to bear.
Though the MBAW-93 ultimately proved ineffective
against Battra, there was still hope for this
advanced armored fighting vehicle. Mechagodzilla's
completion the following year would mark the pinnacle
of human engineering, and the MBAW-93 provided
backup for the massive mecha. Its usefulness as
a means to offer support for more sophisticated
weaponry would continue to be realized even into
the days of Godzilla's meltdown crisis, as this
military vehicle would find itself deployed alongside
the DAG-MB96 in a desperate campaign against Destoroyah.
