When
the Gulf War started in the early 1990s, the military
created a new weapon to aid themselves on the
battlefield. It could fire rockets to great distances.
It was dubbed the Multi Rocket Launch System,
or the MRLS for short.
In 1998, the M270 model was sent to New York
for a very different situation. It was to aid
in the destruction of a severely mutated iguana
named Godzilla. The monstrous leviathan had a
liking to tuna, which was used to lure the monster
into a trap. After the manholes were removed,
Godzilla came out of hiding. The military was
stunned in amazement at the creature's size as
it moved towards the gigantic pile of tuna. As
it ate, the order was given to fire. Tanks and
at least one M270 fired at the creature. Godzilla
ducked under the rocket's projected path, destroying
a building and fled in terror. The only vehicles
that could follow it were the Apaches, making
the M270 useless for now. A second attempt was
done at Central Park. Godzilla again, with its
enhanced senses, smelled the tuna and was lured
once more. This time, it wasn't fooled and the
military was forced to fire. Godzilla managed
to flee as the iguana ran through a long blockade
of tanks and MRLS units. With a few casualties,
Godzilla escaped into the water, where the navy
was ready. Two torpedoes were fired and Godzilla
was thought to be dead. That was soon proven wrong
when he resurfaced from the remains of Madison
Square Garden. An attempt was made to trap him
at the Brooklyn Bridge, where three F-18s finally
brought him down. The MRLS and tanks were sent,
but only to witness Godzilla's demise.
