The Escort Cruiser Aka, like its sister the Aizu, was one of the SDF's top battle cruisers, responsible for the transportation and deployment of troops and weaponry during emergency situations. The cruiser saw its first sign of combat when catastrophe erupted in Yokohama. Drawn by mysterious forces, Godzilla, Mothra, and Ghidorah were locked in an intense battle as the Aka and Aizu remained on stand by in the bay.

Shortly after Mothra and Ghidorah were overwhelmed into submission, the SDF launched their full arsenal at the nuclear menace responsible for this terrible war. The Aka unleashed its ammunition as ground forces sent the capable D-03 missiles drilling into their monstrous foe. Godzilla, it appeared, could not be harmed... for it was merely irked by the seemingly powerful onslaught. A single atomic ray wiped out the drill launchers and the military defense line. Over ninety percent of the counteroffensive was eliminated, including the once proud Escort Cruiser Aka, which was reduced to fiery debris by the pillar of plasma. Luckily, the Aizu remained unharmed, and it would soon prove to play a very important role in the upcoming defeat of Godzilla.
