Though the whereabouts of Legion were unknown, the self-defense force accurately predicted that the deadly aliens' next target would be Sendai. A Legion Flower appeared in the city, and dozens of Symbiotic Legions infested the area. The need for evacuation was urgent, and the JSDF utilized a series of CH-47J Chinook helicopters to aid in the escape. While a few were still grounded, Gamera appeared as Legion emerged from beneath the ground. All but one of the helicopters was able to escape, for the ground was rocking too violently for the final one to takeoff. Gamera repelled Legion long enough for the final helicopter to gain lift, for the heroic turtle had intentionally protected the people aboard the vessel, including his human link Asagi Kusanagi.
