Teasers
(by Michal Shipman)

Background
It's interesting how the idea of creating teasers came about in the production of Project-G. We actually never planned on doing more than one teaser, which was the Video Teaser which utilized the 3D Godzilla model from the fan short film, "Godzilla x King Ghidorah: Vengeance" and the phrase "...And the Rest is History."  On June 3, 2008 Tom (Gvamp), Chris (Chris55), and  I, Michal (Naruto65), thought about how we wanted to keep everyone's interest with the project with only one month until launch.  Most of the ideas that were thrown onto the table was to simply update threads on forums and tell you all that its coming soon, with maybe a concept art picture or something like that.  It wasn't until later that evening I pitched the idea of making it into a game.  We'd have several teasers that wouldn't necessarily tell you all what Project-G was all about, but enough to give you an idea.  Basically, your playing a game of Detective.  The idea was immediately accepted and work began that night.

Here I'll explain everything behind these teasers, from the idea of putting it together to what each clue stood for.

Teaser 1: Classified Folder

Well Project-G was "TOP-SECRET" and "CLASSIFIED."  So I thought, what's the best way to present this?  Obviously by showing our "TOP SECRET" folder.  The idea of hiding pictures came from an episode of "Family Guy" I had watched earlier in the week.  Basically if you hold a black light in a room, your likely to find some interesting things not visible to your eyes.  So with that in mind I took images that had to do with Project G and created transparent silhouettes of each one, placing them all over the folder.  Only one was made visible to see with your normal eyes, but the rest were made to be a little more difficult.  Of course, I added a key to help you out in finding the last bit of the clues.  To make things a little more difficult, obstacles were added to throw peoples speculation off, G.O.W., the numbers, and even rough edges of the folder.  There were a total of 5 things to look for in Teaser 1.  Below are the answers with an explanation for each one.

#1 The words "Look at it negative or inverted"
#2 The NES Godzilla Sprite from Godzilla charging up
#3 The logo from Godzilla: Monsters of Monsters
#4 The Katakana Gojira
#5 Gojira from Monster of Monsters

#1 This was your key to figure out the other clues.  Having the words face horizontally was to blend in with the text in the document.  What this meant was that you needed to either tilt your screen so you can see it's negative, or put it in photoshop and Invert it.  Paint users may have found it difficult to find these pictures since its just a generic program.
#2 This was your easy clue that maybe there are more hidden pics in this folder.
#3 The logo was added because of the inclusion of GMOM in Project G, but also to throw users off by thinking it was from "Godzilla King of the Monsters" since the logos are practically identical.
#4 This is actually the logo used for the Japanese version of GMOM.  Will this version be covered in Project G?  You'll find out.
#5 This was the toughie, hardly visible, it's the render of Gojira in the JP version of GMOM, this is in correspondence with answer number four.

Everything here mostly points at Retro Gaming, but it still wouldn't be enough to figure out what Project G is.  It's just a piece of the puzzle.

Teaser 2:

Shortly after Teaser 1 was released, Matt Frank designed Teaser 2.  This Teaser doesn't have much in it, but it does unveil the official logo for Project G.  I assumed that the controller that would be hanging from Godzilla's mouth was going to be a Wii-Mote, but when I saw that it was a NES controller I thought, "Oh man, this is going to throw the speculation way off."  I just want you all to know that this was coincidental and that we weren't really trying to push that GMOM was the main thing for Project G.  Aside from that, Matt Frank uses a different style to create Godzilla and added Japanese characters which acted as our main slogan for the project.

#1 Godzilla with a NES controller in his mouth
#2 Translated: ...And the Rest is History

#1 Inclusion of NES Godzilla games in Project G.
#2 The Japanese Hiragana spells out, "...And the Rest is History"  This was our official slogan that went with Project G, and also would be used to help  find the answer to one of the later teasers.

Teaser 3:

Due to the massive speculation in the wrong direction, we felt that we needed to present something to bring the speculation back to a reality.  Chris released a deleted scene, concept art, from "Godzilla: Save The Earth."  There isn't anything hidden here, it is what it is.  Talk about an easy hint as to what Project G could be.  At this point in our teaser releases, you still wouldn't be able to figure out what Project G is, except for that it has to do with the games that were mentioned in the teasers.

#1 Deleted Scene from GSTE

#1 Mainly a last minute add to control speculation.  It also serves that concept art will be shown in Project G.

Teaser 4:

After waiting a week it was time to reveal another Detective Teaser.  The thought of presenting this as a Ransom Note came from the idea that we're holding Project G hostage from it's fans.  Originally, there were only 4 clues in this teaser, but then we heard that we may be launching sooner than expected, so this was to be our last Detective Teaser.  With that in mind I expanded it to a large degree of clues and hints.  I made it on a separate web page not connected to Tohokingdom.com, in assurance no one would stumble upon it, and to throw people off when reading the web address.  Next was coming up with a riddle that had to do with exactly what Project G was about.  I looked up "impossible riddles" and found it there.  The teaser was created in photoshop, and making it into a jpeg was my main focus so that no one could do a copy and paste job into google to find the answer to the riddle.  Once it was finished I ended up with 8 clues.  I still didn't think it was enough, so I added a hidden link to the site that would bring you to another teaser with more clues.  Also I changed the format of the picture from JPEG to PNG, making the background transparent, which included hidden clues.  In the end, this teaser had a total of 15 hints/clues.

#1 Green Letters: snaedeyvs: Seven Days
#2 Red Letters: toho: Toho
#3 Blue Letters: aseg: Sega
#4 Dreamcast Logo
#5 L33T translated into "Video Teaser"
#6 Hidden Link to L33T
#7 1988 Copyright
#8 Between "Top Secret and Eyes Only"
#9 Color will give you the answer
#10 One teaser left
#11 GOW means nothing
#12 It's Coming to an End...
#13 GODZILLA
#14 5 Clues
#15 Answer to the Riddle: History

#1-3 All the words were made into a different color.  Only Red, Blue, and Green, actually spelled something, though they were scrambled.  The easy clue here was that the Red spelled Toho; it wasn't scrambled.  Sega meant that any Godzilla game that had to do with SEGA would be included in Project G.  TOHO meant that Toho made games were going to be included in Project G.  SEVEN DAYS was a big clue that Seven Days from the posting of that teaser, the next teaser would be released.
#4 Dreamcast logo confirms that Godzilla games created for it will be included in Project G.
#5 I decided to use the language of symbols and numbers to give you the answer.  Using L337 I wrote Video Teaser backwards, however there was a typo so it would have been hard to translate directly.  This was what would come in Seven Days.
#6 -7 The hidden link at the bottom of the page served two purposes, one was that the copyright pointed at when Godzilla Monster of Monsters was released, 1988 and a link to the L337 page.  To find this you would have to press TAB or CTRL+A.
#8-14 Could not be seen unless the picture was copied on to your desktop, on to the forum, or into a photo program.
#8 Since no one still couldn't find the last clue in Teaser 1, this was added as a key.
#9 This meant that if you look at the colors on the ransom note, they spell something out.
#10 Self explanatory, one teaser left after this one.
#11 Since soooo many people were caught up on G.O.W. I thought this would be a good time to say that it was just an obstacle, it never meant anything.
#12 Project G is being released soon.
#13 This spelled Godzilla using different Logos from the games that are being covered in Project G.
#14 There are only 5 clues that were visible to the naked eye on that page, the rest were hidden.
#15 finally the answer to the riddle.  No one ever got this until the very end after so many hints.  This is basically what Project G is, the history of Godzilla Video games.  The best clues from previous Teasers would be from Teaser 2, "...And the Rest is History"  Though it was interesting to see what people thought the answer was.

At this point in our teaser releases only a few people could tell what Project G really was.

Teaser 5:

This was the last teaser, which ironically was planned to be the first teaser back in December 2007.  There was a previous version to this, but it was updated with a better version of the 3D model.  Again this teaser reaffirms the official Project G logo and slogan.  If you haven't realized what Project G is at this point, well, just know that your friends still like you.

Teaser Trailer

There are no hidden clues here, just that it's a real cool look at the 3D Godzilla model being used for "Godzilla x King Ghidorah: Vengeance" which Project G will not be covering.  This final teaser was to let you all know that launch was coming VERY SOON.

Well that about does it.  I know some of you were frustrated at times, but that's the fun of it.  If it were too easy, then you wouldn't have anything to do but wait.  I hope you enjoyed these teasers as much as I did making them.
