When creating this
game, Newgin had a rather unique hook to the title:
to include actual footage of the monsters using the
suits from the films. Hiring Koichi
Kawakita as the special effects director, numerous
sequences were filmed with the intention of integrating
them into the game with the 3-D polygon models that
Newgin had created. Surprisingly, the company also
went for a decent sized roster of characters from
the Toho universe to enhance the experience. Below
is a listing of all of the monsters featured in the
game, and some background on their look:
 |
Godzilla
Prop Origin: Godzilla
vs. Megaguirus (2000)
Digital Model: Yes
Clearly some key members behind the production
of the game were fans of the elongated mouth
and green hue look of the Godzilla from the
2000 film, especially since they had several
surviving suits of the character to choose from.
It should be noted that Godzilla has a blue
atomic ray in the game, as opposed to the red
hued one that he used in Godzilla
vs. Megaguirus (2000). |
 |
Gigan
Prop Origin: Godzilla:
Final Wars (2004)
Digital Model: Yes
Godzilla's first opponent in the game, Gigan
breaks his way through a icy covering when he
first appears to do battle with the King of
the Monsters. The version of the character is
from the Millennium series, prior to being equipped
with the chainsaw hands. |
 |
Destoroyah
Prop Origin: Godzilla
vs. Destoroyah (1995)
Digital Model: Yes
The character erupts from the water's surface
as Destoroyah faces off with Godzilla in the
Port level. The head piece is clearly left over
from the 1995 film; however, some promotional
material shows a full body shot that displays
wings that are radically different from how
they looked in the movie. |
 |
Mechagodzilla
Prop Origin: Godzilla:
Tokyo S.O.S. (2003)
Digital Model: Yes
Referred to only as Mechagodzilla in the game,
the suit and general design of the character
is that of Kiryu from his 2003 appearance. Unfortunately,
the roar of the character is inconsistent. In
the live action segments, his roar is that of
Kiryu's, while in the polygon portions of the
game he has the screech sound of the Showa Mechagodzilla. |
 |
SpaceGodzilla
Prop Origin: Godzilla
vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994)
Digital Model: Yes
Appearing in a volcanic region in the game,
the prop used is a little difficult to track
in terms of origin. A close look at the prop,
from promotional material, showcases some obvious
differences from the suit in Godzilla
vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994), particularly
in the face area. The most likely scenario around
this is that they had to repair the aging suit
from that film, ending with something that was
slightly different from the original. |
 |
Mothra (Larva)
Prop Origin: -
Digital Model: Yes
The larval form of Mothra appears to aid Godzilla
in battle. The character is the only monster
in the game to not appear in live action form. |
 |
King Ghidorah
Prop Origin: Godzilla,
Mothra & King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out
Attack (2001)
Digital Model: Yes
The "supposed" final opponent of
Godzilla in the game. In a fairly odd choice,
the GMK version of the character was
picked to represent the three-headed dragon
in what is supposed to be a fairly menacing
role. |
 |
Mothra
Prop Origin: Godzilla:
Final Wars (2004)
Digital Model: Yes
The imago form of the Mothra character arrives
to help Godzilla in his battle with King Ghidorah.
Her appearance matches the one seen in the 50th
Anniversary Godzilla film. |
 |
Minilla
Prop Origin: Godzilla:
Final Wars (2004)
Digital Model: No
Aiding Godzilla in his battle with King Ghidorah,
the version of Minilla featured is from the
Millennium series. No polygon model of the character
was created. |
 |
Rodan
Prop Origin: Godzilla:
Final Wars (2004)
Digital Model: Yes
The game's secret character, who is accessed
after the credits. The version of Rodan featured
is the one from the 50th Anniversary Godzilla
film.
