San Diego, 2012, Legendary Pictures has unveiled more information about the still under wraps new Godzilla film from the studio. On July 14th at Comic-Con, that curtain was lifted ever so slightly to contain some new visual and contextual info about the production.

First, a new poster for the movie debuted, pictured right, which features English text with the Japanese Kanji for Gojira in the background.

Second, a test reel was shown privately to the audience that encompassed the direction of the project. The footage showed a post apocalyptic city, covered in dust from the destruction and shots of hollowed-out buildings. To set the tone, the footage included a chilling archive voice over of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the "father of the atomic bomb", saying his now famous quote: "We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds" (click to hear the passage). Following this was a quick flash of Godzilla's profile before the test footage concluded.

The movie's director, Gareth Edwards, then took the stage. He discussed his approach for the project: "I'm just going to take it really seriously," Edwards said. "I'd like to see this movie this way all my life, really... There's nothing sci-fi about this movie, it's very grounded, realistic."
