Background and Trivia

  • Disney submitted the film to the US copyright office on September 2nd, 2009 with the registration number of PA0001646629. The movie was submitted under the title Ponyo.
  • Director Hayao Miyazaki originally wanted to make a sequel to Ponyo. However, he was talked out of it by producer Toshio Suzuki who wanted the director to make a movie based on the real-life experiences of author Tatsuo Hori and aviation engineer Jiro Horikoshi. This resulted in The Wind Rises (2013).
