Background and Trivia

  • While most marketing in Japan just used the title in Japanese (ミカドロイド), when Toho released the movie to DVD in Japan they started to use an English film title of "Mikadoroid" on marketing and the DVD cover. In 2005 Toho Kingdom was given the opportunity to check on the preferred English names for several of Toho's productions. During these discussions, it was mentioned that the preferred English name for the movie is "Mikadroid" as opposed to the English title that was used on the Japanese DVD release.
  • The project was initially planned to be a zombie movie to be released in 1989 called Mikado Zombie. However, the real life atrocities of serial killer Tsutomu Miyazaki were making headlines at the time, including his fascination with horror films. As a result, it was decided to largely retool the concept to be more of a science fiction feature, eventually becoming Mikadroid.
