When a number of international students come to little Maruko's elementary school, Maruko makes an unexpected connection with an Italian student named Andrea. Together with Maruko's classmates and some of Maruko's family, they go on a school trip to Osaka and Kyoto, and have a series of adventures looking for Andrea's favorite uncle's old Japanese friends.

  • Commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Chibi Maruko-chan anime, which began broadcasting on January 7th of 1990.
  • Although not the first time a theatrical film has been made for the Chibi Maruko-chan franchise, there is a gap of 23 years since the last one was produced, which was Chibi Maruko-chan: My Favorite Song (1992).
