A famous horror director filming a new giant monster movie in an Asian country?! Apparently so; as well known horror producer/director Brian Yuzna["Re-Animator","Dagon"] has now set up shop in Jakarta, Indonesia with his brand new label Komodo Films. The production company has several film projects in the works that will be in 3-D and feature local talent. The first of which is a giant monster movie about a gigantic supernatural sea scorpion entitled; "AMPHIBIOUS" and is currently in production!! For more details check "Undead Backbrain"s article on the director and his latest projects:

Well it gets credit for having a monster that's never been done before, at the very least.

Pretty sure the giant scorpion concept has been done before.

This movie looks intriguing, Dagon was great and would have been better if it wasn't for some pacing issues, so I've got hopes for this film.

Yes, they have. Giant supernatural sea scorpions, however, have not.

Huh. A giant scorpion wasn't what I was expecting when I read the title "Amphibious," but still, it looks pretty cool.

I have a feeling it's not a scorpion and just a poorly-drawn lobster or something.

Hmm...

It seems that this could be perhaps the first movie about a giant, killer eurypterid. Looks interesting. I wonder if obscure kaiju scholar, Awesome Avery has found any of the latest news about this movie yet. Smile

I've looked into Sea Scorpions, or as ZillaRex said, Euryptrids. They resemble scorpions only with vastly diffrent limbs. They were predatory and are among the largest of Anthropods to ever walk the Earth. They were apex predators at times in history and like this movie suggests, are commonly believed to have some amphibious members among them. They have been featured in a few animal planet and discovery channel shows as well.

Though obviously none are as large as this creature, they were still huge, 2 meters long.

Wow, that'd be amazing if that lobster was so poorly drawn it resembled a scorpion which apart from having claws don't resemble lobsters very much. Gee wouldn't that be something, especially when the article says it's a scorpion.

Oh yes, Sea Scorpions were a very interesting breed of Arthropods.

Yikes! Too many of you guys that I wanted to quote! "Awesome Avery" huh? Laughing

OK; this film was originally announced 2 years ago on Brian Yuzna's "Halcyon International Entertainment"s website.:

http://www.halcyonpix.com/movies.php

Then some time later it was revealed that it would be in 3-D. Then forever....and nothing. Just "coming soon" and every film below it on their production list would jump into production and be moved above it on that list. Then finally; back in May the webpage for it was updated as "in production" and that new smaller green logo[the one up top of this thread] was revealed for it and we did the article linked above in my first post and I started these threads for it. At that time it had been revealed that Brian Yuzna had started a brand new production company called; "Komodo Films" in Jakarta, Indonesia[the Asian country it will take place and be filmed in] and that this would be the first of 3 films done in 3-D with the second film being "Cold Blooded" - a new horror film about killer Komodo dragons. Well, if you checked that link above for "Halcyon Ent." then you noticed that there's no entry for "Amphibious" there anymore huh? It was pulled off of the site shortly after it's status was updated as "in production". At first I was like- "Oh no! They can't have cancelled this awesome sounding film after us having waited so long for it!" Now that could still be the case as it's been delayed so many a time.....but I dunno. Well, then I came across this:

http://komodofilms.com/

Which is obviously going to be the new fledgling production company's website once they're finished with it. It would make sense that the film would be pulled from "Halcyon Entertainment"s site as it's no longer one of their productions huh? Now we'll just have to wait and see. Oh and yes these films should be released here as the entire purpose of him setting up shop in the Asian country was to help make them a viable film making country and get them into the international markets. Believe me; I've tried contacting them many a time at both sites, to get you guys the goods, over quite a long period of time to no avail. Yeah; even "Awesome Avery" get's no love. Laughing

Anyways; for the time being here's a graphic logo that a company had worked on for the production company:

http://www.geppetto3d.com/asset/showreel/Albums/films/film01.html

Also; about "sea scorpions"....I've seen several images online[posted below] of what they look like which resembled more a lobster as mentioned above but I'm almost positive that I also read somewhere that one species of them more closely resembled modern day scorpions. Confused

There....I think I replied to everyone?? Then; for your enjoyment a list of giant scorpion films:

Well as far as giant scorpion horror goes I'm sure we're all familiar with;

"Black Scorpion" [1957]:

How about some others? Perhaps;

"Damnation Alley" [1977]:

Finally an update on this new Asian giant monster film from famed horror director Brian Yuzna and his 'Komodo Films' of Jakarta, Indonesia that I have been following for over two years now! The film is finishing up post and will be ready for release by May. It is currently being represented by 'Celsius Ent.' at the A.F.M. and the first materials are starting to surface giving us an idea of just how awesome this film's gonna be. I can now say that while the giant monster of the film isn't a sky scraper cruncher it could definitely be a house cruncher! It's one BIG giant supernatural prehistoric sea scorpion! This beast could eat Gwoemul[The Host] for breakfast! Check out our article over at "Undead Backbrain" for the first real peak at this awesome new film![be sure to click on the pics in the gallery to get the full effect]:
