I want to see something along the lines of the D-03 in GMK- something's that interesting and cool, but believable.

I'm OK with masers. Now stuff like Super-X and Mechagodzilla, that should be saved for a later film, IF there is a later film.

This. If they have to invent some kind of super weapon, it shouldn't be something insane like Masers or the Super-X.

I could see masers being brought out. I do agree that it should be restricted. But if a reference is introduced, a maser cannon would be okay.

Well, it might be okay if they mention developing it in the movie. But if Masers just show up out of nowhere, well I'd rather that not happen.

A laser that kills Godzilla in one hit. :D [/sarcasm]

Masers are the only ones I'd recognize.

I wouldn't mind Maser tanks being brought out as an experimental/prototype thing, with just a handful of them. That way they can be an actual threat instead of some random super high-tech weapon that gets mowed down like any ordinary tank. Sorta like the Masers in the Kiryu movies, but to a much greater extent.

What I really want to see is the full brunt of the US military brought to bear against the monsters. Not just the standard, pansy-ass "Sidewinder missiles and tank rounds" that we constantly get in the Toho movies. I wanna see some REAL damn firepower. It'd also be nice for them to engage the monsters from a realistic distance, too. It's outright retarded to have your vehicles right in front of the monster when you can be hammering them from miles away. Tank cannons have a range of around 4 miles. "Close-range" missiles, like Sidewinders, have an effective range of over 10 miles. Long-range ones can hit targets from over 200 miles away. Bombs are dropped from thousands of feet up.

They're not going to put masers into an American film I can guarantee that. They'll most likely come up with their own advanced weapon to try and defeat him or just let the monsters he battles wear him out and make him go home like most of the Japanese versions end up.

Actually, there are 'energy' weapons in the present, mainly microwave weapons but they're too weak to hurt Godzilla...probably. But still, that doesn't make a Maser too far fetched.

I think electrical canon Masers may be believible, but it'd be different from what we see in Japan, as a real world one would likely be invisible. Which obviously doesn't have the visual impact so I say, at least in the first film, leave it out.

Personally, if there is a super weapon, something like the drill missiles from GMK or the Full Metal Missiles from Godzilla 2000, something that could exist in the real world.

I wants mai Masers. Given decent explanation (probably a little good old Applied Phlebotinum) and adequately good execution, it could fly. I mean, the audience is already suspending their belief for a 50-100 meter nuclear-powered leviathan that can fire beams of pure atomic energy, so why not some laser weapons? Shit, it worked for Star Wars.

I'd rather they not make an appearance. Seeing actual, real life weapons and tanks and such make more of an impact on me at least. I know what a abrams tank is capable of doing to people/buildings/etc. We know that a single bomber can level several city blocks. Putting that stuff in perspective of Godzilla wading through it just helps you get into the movie better.

And like IR said, I want to see more actual tactics. Not Godzilla blasting a bunch of tanks at his feet, but off in the distance on some hill.

I agree with using current weapons only. Just one thought on the tanks though. If it is set in a coastal city as we expect it would be hard for an abrams
to get a clear shot through a skyscraper unless they get up close and personal.

This is true. Realistically, the army would probably send anti-armor Stryker vehicles.

Miltary battle scenes

Postby shinmattiathekaiju » Fri May 27, 2011 10:56 am

How do you want the battle scenes with tanks and battleships to be like?

Make them like in Godzilla vs Biollante and GMK!

Godzilla vs. The Thing.

A series of elaborate plans and barriers placed throughout a variety of locales set-up to halt (or stall) Godzilla. GvstT was good at making the scenes suspenseful, with the military winning seeming a possibility.

Or, like the Gamera Trilogy; those films were great in that the military had no chance of defeating a monster on their own, but they were always a factor in turning the tides of the battle between two monstrous opponents. They were a wild card factor, and it made their decisions consequential to the battles instead of just getting trashed and sitting around watching.

I would say that a military assualt against the monster Godzilla is fighting. Imagine what happened in Gamera 3 with the jets. The military attacks, fails and then Godzilla arrives to save the people that tried to kill him. Then after he killls the mosnter, Godzilla destroys everything in his sight. I would guess that is how it is going to play out.
