10 years since the theatrical released of Godzilla 2000

Godzilla 2000 was the second Godzilla film I've ever watched in theaters. The first was GINO back in 1998. When I watched Godzilla 2000 I loved it, it was awesome and entertaining to me. I went and saw it with my mom and my brothers, but it was like two days after it's release into the US theaters.

But I'll admit, there were some boring scenes especially when it involved the UFO. Half the time when that happened I kept wondering to myself when Godzilla would show up again. The final fight against Orga was sick! No, really it was. Orga trying to become a clone and devour Godzilla. I'll never forget that horrible sight, ever....And when Godzilla charged in and Orga was trying to swallow him, looking back I can tell people had a "WTF ARE YOU CRAZY GODZILLA" expression on their faces lol.

Later on when it was released on VHS, I got me a copy and I still love it. Though I only watched it once out of this whole summer lol. Regardless of the dull scenes and the weird dubs, Godzilla 2000 will always have a place in my heart.

You aren't mistaken. Lise Richardson, the music editor for the American version of Godzilla 2000, lifts cues from Gargantua as well as "writing" a new version of Ifukebe's Godzilla music for when Orga makes its appearance. This does confuse me a bit, because Gargantua was produced by 20th Century Fox, not Sony/Tristar.

I hate a lot of fun. After being thoroughly disappointed with the American 98 film in the sense that it wasn't Godzilla, I loved this one more than it was probably worth. Looking back and watching it, it's not terribly exciting or memorable, but the plot is much better with more character in the actors than I'm used to in a Godzilla flick. It was a "first" movie for the Millenium series, but I wouldn't say it was as well-executed as the 1954 and 1985 "firsts" were.

I haven't seen the Japanese version in quite some time, but the U.S. version is certainly a lot more fun than GxM or the two Kiryu movies. Uneven special effects and an unimpressive Godzilla design aside, the dub at least brings something to a (mostly) unmemorable cast of human characters. I also like what a twist from the Heisei series it is - there are no superweapons, mechs, or psychics, just old-fashioned tanks and planes and an alien opponent. It's the modernized Showa movie that Godzilla x Megaguirus tried to be. It's a bit disappointing in that it doesn't "stand out" like GMK and GFW do, but it's a fun movie nonetheless.

It's not the film I see getting so much praise as much as it is the G2K design. I find it to easily be the MOST overrated Godzilla design these days. Everything about his face, and expression just looks ridiculous. And it doesn't have the charming, goofy quality that some of the Showa designs have. Those jagged teeth just look absolutely awful.

For me, it was the first (and, so far, only) Godzilla film I've seen in theaters. And while I do understand the hate/criticism and couldn't blame anyone for not liking it, I guess I just have a lot of fun with the movie. I agree with this. I loved the G2K Godzilla when I first saw it, but now it really means nothing to me. I don't like the fins, I don't like the face, and I don't like the "hunched over" posture. It's not my least favorite Godzilla design, but it's nowhere near my favorite.

I rather like this suit, particularly the colour palette (not counting beam) and skin texture. It's not in my top 3, but I prefer it over the Kiryu suit.

I think Nostalgia drives the popularity of this film. I was ecstatic and overwhelmed at seeing the King of the friggin' Monsters on the BIG SCREEN. Looking back I realize it was the smallest theater in the Multiplex building and had maybe 12 people there. But it was fantastic.

Looking at it critically, it's like the film was trying to win a "Run of the Mill" contest. It's got a few good bits; the dubbing, likable characters, some new types of sequences not really seen before (him chasing the SUV through the tunnel), probably the closest we've gotten to a straight up Godzilla clone, and Godzilla eating radiation again (YAY). Or Toho tried to hard to remind everyone that they're back making the SAME movie.

Also, I love Katagiri. A fantastically slimy villain and CCI is a nice more contemporary take on the standard G-FORCE response teams. I'd love for that character to come back and at least the term CCI to also make a return.

I haven't watched this in since the previous summer and I'm not really in a hurry to do so either.

Dude, if you're not willing to accept that a movie is rather subpar, and nevertheless let the inner child kick in and still be entertained by it, what are you doing watching Godzilla, let alone joining TK?

I had some jerkoff a few rows in front of me be on his phone the 2nd time I saw the film in the theaters. All talking loudly. I let him off though. It's not nice to beat someone up in front of their kids.

I didn't see this film in theatres when it came out but when I got a VHS copy of the film and watched it at a friends' house. I was entertained. I thought that this was a kick ass Godzilla film and to me it still is and I find it more entertaining any of the Heisei Godzilla films and the dubbing is pretty funny, though some of the effects are uneven (CGI Godzilla) but the minature buildings look great and Orga looked somewhat scary now the Godzilla 200 suit, to me it was just okay at best and the human actors are surprisngly good for what they are given and I loved IO (yes thats the kid's name) and I loved the main human villian. I haven't seen the Japanese cut so I can't make the comparisons between the US & Japanese versions but I still love Godzilla 2000 and I watch it every now and again when I'm just bored

This movie has my favourite Godzilla's design(mainly because is more reptilian than the others and the spikes on the back are awesome) but it bored the heaven out of me.

I almost missed this flick when G2K made its its debut in the cineplexes. It didn't show up in my usual movie house that I regularly attended, and I was a wee bit down in the mouth about it that summer. Luckily, my mother who was visiting my grandmother at hospital the Sunday after Labor Day around that time, and ran into my cousin. Who was also a G-Fan as well. He had just taken his niece and nephew to it at the local theater. My mom relayed the news when she got home, and that rainy night I zipped up there to see it. I was a little let down to see I was the only one attending it at the time, but enjoyed seeing my third Godzilla film on the big screen(G85 & Tri-Star's take were the ones that came before). And I have to say rather enjoyed the experience. Although, that giant purple question mark on the theatrical version(THE END ?[/b] was horrid, and am glad to see it was stricken from the home release, along with the cable version. Probably the sentiment of seeing the flick in the theater does contribute to my continued enjoyment of the flick, and I do agree it does tend to drag a little bit when all the attention is pointed at the UFO. Also I do agree that the underwater CGI Godzilla is sub-par, but sap that I am, I always give it a little leeway since Toho's effects department was still just getting their feet wet with the technology. But that same leeway shrunk a a bit later when I saw the Gaos swarm at the end of GAMERA 3, and saw what they were capable of doing on a smaller budget. Also love the Big-G's rampage throught that small neighborhood in the film's opening. To get out of the town that I saw the flick in, there's this bridge I had to cross, and it overlooks a power transformer just like the one where Shinoda was observing Godzilla's trashing the power plant. I can't help thinking of the scene everytime I pass over that bridge. Also until I saw this flick, the G-Design that I thought was the gold standard of suit design was the one that appeared in the bulk of the Heisei Series. I just love how this bugger seems a bit more, spiney skinwise. The huge spines with their violet trim is also a nice touch as well. And I enjoyed that either the flick's writer, or director decided to have them be something of a liability in combat when they get stuck in the building during the Big-G's fight with the saucer. One other detail that I appreciated, but sadly didn't get too much use, was that Godzilla's claws had never looked more sharper before. I'd love to see him in a battle with another monster ,and gauge some nasty scratches into them like two cats fighting it out.

Too bad Toho didn't follow this up with a direct sequel. I wanted to se what happened to some of the surviving characters in [b]GODZILLA 2000. Would Shinoda be offered the late, but still a bit of an asshole Katagiri's position as head of the CCI ? And would he able to put the Godzilla Prediction Network(GPN) behind him ? Or more likely, would the job go to Katagiri's assistant, Miyasaka ? It would've been interesting to see where that characterwould've progressed after him growing a spine in the course of the first flick, and end up taking charge of the whole CCI operation.

I always thought this is how the American 'Gino' movie should have been made...
