Could this have ever been a good entry in the franchise? If so, explain your idea of what it could have been like.

Personally, I don't really think it would've worked. From what I read about the proposed plot, it seems too typical of a Toho monster movie. Uchijin is killed, life force, superpower used to fight, both title monsters crash into the ocean, the end. Maybe if they came up with a new plot I'd be more inclined to support it?

I do like the idea of a fresh monster to fight Godzilla, though. The Millennium series spent too much time rehashing previous monsters for my liking.

Maybe I'm wrong.

Well the first two Milennium films did unveil Megaguiras and Orga, but besides that, it was just revamps of monsters.

Gotta wonder how Uchijin would have looked like and how he would have functioned...would he have been a new popular Kaiju that would have made a reappearance in another movie?

I do wonder that as well, though I'm guessing they dropped it because it was too much like their previous film, Godzilla 2000 (alien monsters).

Side note: Battra vs Megaguirus. I want to see that!

Eh I might write that and put it in Fan Fiction if I get time.

As for the similarity between G-2000 and this, well it does make sense to not make another movie based on aliens...but it would have been different had there been an alien race controlling him instead of in G-2000 when there's that random alien ship...

The Battra vs Megaguirus just popped into my head randomly, lol.

You're right, and Toho strangely says no to similar movies then yes. Two Mechagodzillas right out of the gate, two King Ghidorah-centered movies with aliens (okay, a martianized alien and then an actual race), then in the Millennium series we had to Mecha-G movies next to each other again, and they had Mothra, which was in GMK. And so it goes on.

So it's hard to say why exactly they dropped the plan, but that's my best guess. I noted that I didn't like the basic plot, but you can always switch out plots and keep monsters, or vice versa. They've done it before.

It's an interesting idea. I could see pacing problems with the plot, though.

Well I'm sure every long-running film studio is guilty of the same thing. The plot of GvU just doesn't sound amazing, but hey it's rare for a good plot in a Godzilla movie, we're usually just here for the monsters.

On a side note, what monster is shown in the picture of the movie in the Cutting Room?

Interesting conpect for a film and might have kick off of a cool series if it was done right. I can see why Toho turn it down since they did not want to make any new monsters after G2k and GXM since those movies where not box office hits.

So was this based on that great Ultraman episode?

I don't know, I'm not an Ultraman follower.

@ Hellspawn28: so they decided to make GMK. And that was a hit. Best Godzilla movie of the Millennium Series so far

GMK had two of Toho's most popular monsters. Toho likes to pick popular monsters for their movie, the same way they do with comic book movies. They pick The Green Gobin for the first Spider-Man since he is famous and is known to be Spider-Man's most popular villain.

It brings a higher marquee value to the theaters so the general public is more compelled to say,"Hey, I want to see that."

Marketing perfection in practice, my friends.

Also, Toho already had so many movies involving aliens. GMK was something different.

GMK was more mythical kinda like how KC was in GvMG. It definitely turned out really good though

I'm quite certain this was inspired by, if not based on the Ultraman episode "My Home is Earth". The monster featured in the cutting room image is even a remake of the monster from that episode (so that is a pretty accurate representation). It's likely that Toho would've faced a law suit from Tsuburaya for this project and probably a motivator in getting it scrapped.

It's interesting to note that the episode this film is based on is the episode of Ultraman that Ishiro Honda himself directed (and it's a fantastic episode at that).

Akio Jissoji did that episode.

The idea of a human becoming a gaint monster over time sounded pretty cool. It would have been like a Kajiu version of "The Fly" or "District 9" (2009).

And both of those are very good movies. I'm surprised that idea really hasn't been used yet.
