I've found most scenes are able to keep your attention. There are some that don't, but the corny parts and fight make up for them.

My corns never lie.

Seriously, that guy would have been good for G-Force. Instead of million dollar/yen computer systems and technology, all they'd need is his corns.

After decades of seeing the U.S. version, when i finally got my hands on the Japanese cut, what a different, more enjoyable, coherent film this had become. the Ifukube score was cool, and we get to hear the first version of the Godzilla theme that was used several times following this film. the color tone of the film is really nice in the Japanese cut also.
You have your fear which might become reality. And you have Godzilla, which *is* reality.

While this film is enjoyable, I think it definately needed some improvement.
It's nice to see Honda return to the series (I don't know who they would of had to replace him if he didn't want to, though). The humans scenes are alright mostly. However, the characters, while not as devolped as they could be, are done rather competently. Interesting to note this is Sekizawa's first writing credit on the Godzilla series. While the script is pretty good, the corporate explotation aspect gets somewhat lost through the whole movie. And I think Sekizawa did a much better job with Mothra Vs. Godzilla.
However, the score Ifukbe composed was nothing short of epic. Then again, Ifukbe I believe has always made quality scores, especially in the showa period.
The special effects are passable at best. However, Tsuburaya's need to make King Kong not look scary to children just makes him look silly. And Kong is perhaps the worst special effect in the whole movie. Godzilla looks okay, but I think this is one of his lesser designs. However, the miniatures are nice and I like how there are helicopters just flying through the air in alot of shots. So it's really a mixed bag special effects wise.
Overall, a good movie. However, Godzilla has better movies in the years following.

Japanese version out performs the Americanized one by a huge degree.
I dislike the American version. Love the Japanese one.
Not a big fan of either Kaiju suits.
I did like nearly all of the human aspects of this film.

With user Tamura's livestream of his restoration of the Japanese cut of King Kong vs. Godzilla (This Saturday 8 pm EST!; http://www.livestream.com/tokusatsuterebi), I'm hoping for some more discussion of this under-appreciated film to start kicking up. The much smarter and much more coherent Japanese cut is as hard to see as Godzilla vs. Biollante, but much less sought after as far as I can tell because it's really hard to appreciate really how extensive the changes that were made until you see it.

I'm going into a kind of a phase of loving this movie and right now I'd say it's probably my favorite. But overall it's probably in my top 3 for certain.

After restoring the film, I went through a phase of being quite sick of the film, having looked at most of the frames several times. lawl.
