......Wow, some of you have some very uh.."unique" tastes when it comes to this series. How the hell does anyone enjoy ANY of the prequels over STAR WARS (Episode IV)? ESPECIALLY Episode II. That movie is skreeonk terrible, I'm sorry. Great music, Christopher Lee...but everything else consists of lots and lots of CG stuff blowing up in fake CG environments. Yay?

Episode III was barely any better. Episode I seemed the least pretentious of the 3 prequels, and is actually watchable in it's own right. However, it can't touch any of the classic films. They're infinitely more enjoyable, and much better films overall.

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK is my favorite of the series, but the truth is I LOVE all 3 of the original films. I actually enjoyed the 1997 versions of Special Editions (especially as a 11 yr. old seeing them theatrically...that was epic), they're weren't all THAT bad...but with the 2003 (and reissues in 2007) DVD releases, Lucas just took things too far (changing Boba Fett's voice to the actor that played Jango Fett and BUTCHERING the scene between Vader and the Emperor in Episode V, changing Anakin at the end of JEDI, etc.)

My favorite scene in any of the Special Edition's is the Wampa suitmation added to EMPIRE. It looks great, and doesn't ruin the pacing of the scene. It's a great addition. Everything else in the Special Edition Trilogy was just unnecessary. The only SE version that I ever even consider watching these days is the one done for A NEW HOPE, which feels like a completely different version of the original film when you're watching it, as opposed to like a film that was abused and butchered simply to the liking of Lucas. "Special Editions" weren't necessary for the two films he didn't even direct. He just changed them to his liking, pissing off fans the world over in the process (especially with the DVD changes).

After Lucasfilm confirmed that only the SE's would be remastered for the Blue-ray release, I've decided I'm not buying any more products from them. Period. If BLADE RUNNER can have FOUR different versions re-mastered, and released on DVD/BD, then so can Star Wars. There is no excuse.

I can't think of a single addition to the special editions that I actually like. Everything ranges from utterly pointless (including the extra Wampa footage - less is more and all that), to aggressively stupid (RotJ stock footage in Empire Strikes Back? No one will notice! Oh, wait...), to downright offensive (I'm so sorry, Sebastian Shaw).

Also, saying it's "too expensive" to remaster the unaltered trilogy is bullshit. You're rolling in money, Lucas. Do we have to wait for you to die before we ever see these films get a respectful treatment?

Like Kingdom of the Crystal skull, the prequel films get too much hate.

I also rather like the ROTJ SE ending, its far better then the original.

That's what I'm saying man. Lucasfilm complaining about something being "too expensive" is laughable, and a downright pathetic excuse. Once Lucas croaks, there is no guarantee that we'll get the original trilogy re-mastered, but it will certainly help the chances of that happening at some point.

I agree with what was done with the SE's, but like I said, I can enjoy the SE of A NEW HOPE because it just feels so different from the original film, that it I can enjoy it on it's own terms (not that I ever watch it anyway..but it's at least somewhat tolerable to me personally). The Wampa sequence is awesome, but in no way would I want it to ever be integrated into the original version of the film. Helllll no.

Anyway, anyone who is interested in the original trilogy, can find occasional interesting conversations going on here.

I could be wrong but I have the below DVD version of the original trilogy

http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Trilogy ... 505&sr=1-1

I believe it is better than the previous "OT" unaltered release from 2005.

It has the original theatrical versions in widescreen (Even A New Hope has the original crawl sequence without the "Episode IV" etc...) also it has the "updated" versions released for the first DVD release from 2004.

What I think is intreresting (and may become even more of a collectors item), is the last time these were released on VHS for the 1997 20th anniversary special editions, only "some" CG elements had been added, more has been done, obviously because Lucas wants his fands to keep shelling out cash for new versions. I have seen on Youtube probably at least 30 minuets of "raw" cut footage from the films (most of it boring, without any merit), but if he adds only a couple of scenes, or tweaks a couple things with CG, he could just keep altering these until he dies.

I'm actully surprised that he hasn't opted to insert Jake Lloyd over all of Hayden Christianson's scenes in episodes II & III now that 10 years have passed and he is old enough to play the part.

I have what I believe to be the definitive best editions of all the films right now on DVD, I wont be dipping 2, 3 or 4 more times into the DVD well just for Blu-ray (and a few extra scenes).
There has never been a "Scientifically Accurate" Dinosaur portrayed on any Television Show, Movie, or Documentary. Only what the human imagination can conceive, and I'm ok with that.

I agree with Attack of the Clones. The title is as clunky as the film, except for seeing Yoda in action.

It looks like I'm the only one here that liked the special editions more than the original prints, rather strange. :?

1) All the titles are clunky. They're supposed to be. It's part of the serial homage.

2) The Yoda scene was awful!

So did I. That scene was shameless, stupid fan service. George Lucas might as well have strolled out into the audience and performed sexual favors for the fanboys. If he had done that instead, maybe Yoda could have been spared the embarrassment of being downgraded from a beloved cinematic mentor figure to a wacky cartoon character.

That, and it displayed that Yoda wasn't just feared and respected because he was wise.

Fanservice or not, it was cool to see Yoda do something other than make backwards statements with some vague amounts of wisdom behind them.
