i havent seen G85 in a few years but i think i can help...

1) What did Steve Martin mean by "He's looking for something. Searching. Only if we can figure it out--before it's too late"

i THINK he means that Godzilla is trying to find nuclear energy... but this im not super sure...

2) What did Professor Hayashida mean by he just wanted to send Godzilla home?? Did that just mean he wanted to drop Goji in the volcano??

Hayashida means that Godzilla shouldnt be in that time. He was to send him "Home" as in kill him. because of all the pain Godzilla was/is in. He knows what humans have done to godzilla, and thinks he should be put out of his misery.

but then again... i havent watched 85 in a long while

As a kid I thought it was the dragon amulet thing Martin was carrying around.

Why would he look for something that doesn't exist yet?

... or maybe Steve Martin's line meant something so simple as "he was looking for a food source."

I'd have to rewatch the movie to find where the line is in context with when Godzilla attacked the reactor.

He was searching for the abandoned storyline from 1955 to 1975.

Pft,finding that would be as monumental as finding life(animals, screw bacteria) on another planet

Joking aside, I always thought Mr. Martin was thinking that maybe the Big-G was in fact he was looking for others of his kind. Waking up in this strange new world, assulted left and right by people everywhere he goes, not being left alone. He was looking for some peace and quite. Much like Marvel Comics' own Green Goliath. When Hayashida's device was activated, he seemed to calm down, and made a beeline to the transmitter. He thought he found home, instead he found someone's sattlelite dish, and a molten pit. Which was not good for his mood swings...

I honestly don't take anything from the Steve Martin line. Godzilla obviously didn't seem to be looking for a food source when he raided Tokyo. And I don't recall any such line being said in the Japanese version of the film, so I dismiss it as something that the American editors threw in for some reason.

As for the "Send him home" line. Hayashida flat out says that the volcano wont kill Godzilla. I think he just wanted to put Godzilla in a place where he couldn't do anymore harm and a volcano just so happened to fit the bill.

Much like our Mr. Martin, Godzilla is a homosexual and, much like our Mr. Martin, who lost his Japanese reporter lover in the original film, Godzilla's working through the loss of Gigantis, his well-endowed male companion.

That sounds like the setup for a romantic comedy where Godzilla and Martin find comfort in each other.

The professor shows the survivor pictures of Godzilla from '54, and he agrees it's the monster that attacked the ship, if the Godzilla in ROG is different, there's some plot hole things going on.
what i would like to know is what happened to the cybot they used for some shots in the movie?

Love this movie. Godzilla almost causing world war 3 was a neat twist as well.

...What the he'll are you talking about? It's a known fact that the Godzilla that attacked in 1984 was not the same creature from 1954. That creature was clearly killed at the end of that film. It is also explained in GODZILLA VS. KING GHDORAH that the second Godzilla was created in the 1970's from a crashed nuclear sub/fallout in the Bering Sea.

Just do your research before you go around "correcting" people ;)

Gee, wow, they used the only pics in existence of Godzilla, in order to identify what attacked them, that obviously means that there can't be more than one monster out there, a little detail touched on at the end of Gojira, and was flat out explained (albeit poorly) in GvsKG. Heaven forbid that Serizawa's weapon actually worked.
