Sega is alledgedly financing Columbia Pictures for a film adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog, with a dark and edgy tune.

As a fan of the character Shadow, I can honestly say I don't want to see him in another game (or anything) for awhile now.

"Dark". Yea, I'd like to see that happen... Whereas Godzilla actually started off as a very dark and gritty franchise, Sonic has always been peachy as far as I am aware

But I really don't like the idea. A Dark and Edgy Sonic film, because a blue hedgehog that moves at the speed of sound that fights a fat man shaped like an egg is totally dark and edgy.

Make it akin to the comics where there are some very dark themes, but it was still an overall upbeat experience. Hell, even Sonic X had characters die and still kept it light hearted. We sure as bloody hell don't want to see Sonic be a serious, stand around and brood, rarely smiles, cardboard-like personality mope like in Sonic 06. Keep in the snarky, smart ass attitude that makes Sonic Sonic, show off how fast he actually is, treat the other characters right, add in some mature themes but keep it lighthearted overall, and you'll have a potential success on your hands.

You know I might agree with that if only for the fact that it would mean Danny Elfman would compose. But that also means that Tim would shoehorn in Johnny Depp and others.

Johnny Depp? That fellow seemed so capable of having a diverse career but he seems Tim Burton type cast now. I actually want to see if Johnny can get a non-shoehorned role in "Sonic".

That reminds me. People say that a Super Mario Bros. movie wouldn't work beacuse Mario doesn't have a real story. Well, the original Sonic the Hedgehog game never had a real story either. I remember playing it.

If it manages to be dark while keeping the Sonic spirit [like "SatAM"], I'm all for it. If it's dark just to get a more adult audience [like "Shadow the Hedgehog"], I'll be disappointed.

Ehhhh.... Skeptical and that's being nice... Not that i don't enjoy Sonic, I used to play the game as a kid all the time.

Fact is Sonic, Just like Captain Planet and Mario Bro's could all have potential to be fun/good/entertaining but it's a 95% chance it's going to suck. I'll believe it when i see it, and i'm not even going to anticipate it until i see a trailer that proves it's of quality.
