Toho monster logos, how to find?

So Toho can keep consistent English names for their monsters on International products. The Toho logos sometimes do appear on Bandai tags.

Yes and no. Just the Godzilla logo appears on licensed Japanese products, but only in the form of a small silver sticker. Up until the early 90s the logo was completely different from what we see now, and the sticker was gold. Now the logo is based on the Marvel Comics art.

I should have specified that the Godzilla logo appears on licensed Japanese products. My bad. I have noticed how Toho switched to the Marvel Godzilla logo in the mid-90's or so. I prefer the original Toho logo seen on the older Bandai figures because it actually looks like Godzilla.

Yeah, I remember this. My first few Bandai's I got in the early 90's had that sticker. It's still on a few of my tags of various figures.

The logos appear on the DVD to tell what monster appears in the movie? Do you think LP Godzilla have its own logo or the same Godzilla logo? The American Godzilla used the Godzilla logo until the special editon of the movie came out in 2005, and used the Zilla logo from FW with the name under "Godzilla" due to copy right issues.

You'll have to click on the picture of the tag to see the logo, but it's there.

The logos from Godzilla Unleashed. Not the best quality, but it's got the ones for Jet Jaguar and Krystalak.

It's odd that the Kiryu logo was used for STE, but absent on G:U. They also started using the Fire Rodan icon with G:U, when I believe it was the Showa Rodan icon that was seen on the previous games (which didn't make sense, since Fire Rodan was used for all of the Atari games).

I don't recall Kiryu having a icon on the STE cover. The Kiryu movies do use the same MechaGodzilla logo, does GvsMG '74 and TOMG as well.

It can only be seen with the other logos at the start up screen. It is strangely absent from the box itself. As for the DVD releases, I'm sure it's just something that slipped on part of Toho's marketing department/the people at Sony. Why make an icon if you're not even going to use it on licensed products? I just don't get it.

Toho wanted it switched to Fire Rodan for GU so Atari had to comply

Clearly, Toho is just random as hell when it comes to this stuff. Which explains why the Rodan icon was used for TWO games, on top of the Heisei MG icon being used for the two Kiryu films on DVD. Makes no sense.

The Hesei MG icon was used on the Sony DVD's for MechaGodzilla '74, and Terror of MechaGodzilla as well.

Yeah, that's because Toho's never bothered to make one for the Showa Mechagodzilla. It makes sense why they didn't, but it's still jarring to see the Heisei MG associated with the two 70's films.

Especially because it's so jarringly different from the other two. Doesn't look as cool either.

Godzilla Copyright Icons

Postby kaijukurt » Sat Aug 27, 2011 4:57 am

I'm pretty sure almost everyone here has seen the copyright icons for Toho kaiju which can be seen on the back of DVD's and other merchandising.

Does anyone here have a photo gallery showcasing all of these "kaiju icons"? And why do monsters like Krystalak have an icon but monsters like Obsidiius and the Gargantuas don't? And which icon has your favorite design? (mine's Godzilla, I like how it's influenced by the Marvel Godzilla)

Let's discuss!
