ULTRA-THREAD

Postby Lamango » Sun Nov 21, 2010 3:37 pm

Well, since we got TWO threads for the Zero movie and the Galaxy Movie, why not have a thread for everything before hand? Thats right. Ultra-Q till now. Eiji Tsuburaya's most popular brain child, Ultraman. "OH BUT LAMANGO, GODZILLA'S BEEN AROUND FOR FIFTY YEARS, HE'S MORE WELL KNOWN IN THE UNITED STATES!" Bullfrigginhorseshit. Chances are, the only reason they know of Godzilla is because of GINO, Revenge, Megalon, or GFW.

Now, UltraQ, Ultraman, Seven, Fight, Return, Ace, Taro, Leo, Jonias, 80, USA, Great, Powered, and all the other Ultras can be discussed here. And why not throw in REDMAN, MIGHTY! Jack, and the other unsung heros of Tsuburaya? Monsters are aloud too. Absorba to Zetton.

DAMN IT NICK, YOU LOST YOUR CHANCE.... GRRRR!!!!

Ahh yes, Ultraman... he's so gay, NOT! I've been checking out the original series since I had the dvd thanks to my library and while it's kind of cheesy, I love it. Granted I've only watched 3 out of the 40 episodes. I'm really interested in checking out moreof the series but I'm kind of screwed like most people as they're not out on dvd or I haven't found a site to watch them with english subtitles. I love alot of the designs for each Ultra, besides the classic and Tiga I REALLY love Seven's and Taro's design.

But now let's move onto a rant about the dvds. If you live in the US, you can get some movies no problem like Dyna and Tiga, and the Gaia one however I want to talk about the classic one. Now there's two version you can buy, one by eclipse something and Mill something. Eclipse has it broken into 2 volumes while mill has it all in once case. Eclipse's has actual special features however I've heard something about the audio, if anyone can tell me what it is that would be great. Now Mill has all episodes but no features at all however because of which it's quite cheap. So tell me, what versions should I get for those who own them.

Love the original ULTRA MAN. Here's a quick run-down of the two companies' releases (from Chaiyo, not Tsuburaya - long story - others can fill you in...)

BCI/Eclipse - Two volumes w/extras - interviews and more - don't remember offhand...

Mill Creek - Released entire series in one volume - NO EXTRAS; also released it as two, like BCI did. I recently discovered a 10 episode set from Mill Creek at a Toys-R-Us...

EDIT: Audio is simply horrible on both...

It's frustrating not having access to as much Ultra stuff as I'd like. I'd love to watch the Showa Ultra shows (Ultra-Q included), but all I have is the previously mentioned boxset of the first Ultraman series (which I get endless amounts of entertainment from).

Some of the more recent Ultra shows (and Kamen Rider at that) are to convulted for my taste (multiple forms, multi-ultramen, card battling, blah. It reeks of trying to make to money off of toys). I much prefer the Showa series for their simplicity.

Unless some of the more familiar board members here can suggest a recent series that doesn't fall prey to this.

I only seen most of the Showa series, and I want to pick up the DVD boxset of the original Ultraman but I hear a lot of people did not like the DVD's of the original Ultraman. I seen parts of Ultraman Max, and it looks awesome.

It depends. Are the extras a big draw for you? If you simply want to see the shows, I'd go with the single volume Mill Creek edition - I last saw it @ Wal-Mart about two months ago... I think it's pretty easy to find on eBay for under $10. Like I said, The audio quality of the English track is pretty lousy on all releases.

Tokyo Vigilante and Lamango - How about ULTRAMAN VS. MASKED RIDER?

Hmm... tell you what, since I'm checking it from my library I'll be the judge and figure it out. Also who's the other ultras did you post?

And Kamen Rider and Ultraman teaming up just seems like an awesome idea. I dunno why but it just does.

Kamen rider DID team up with Ultraman before, but it was a Showa movie.

Anyway, Ultraman and his various series are awesome. And unlike Godzilla, stuff about them comes out every year. I haven't been able to watch the Showa shows yet and have only watched big chunks of Max, Mebius and the UGMBs, but they are real fun.

Redman IS Tsuburaya. They re-use almost all the suits from Man, Seven, Jack, Ace, Leo and Taro. They also used two monsters from MIGHTY!Jack and Mirrorman.

My bad - I initially mistook him for Fireman and when I realized he wasn't I just assumed he wasn't a Tsuburaya character. Ooops.
