The lastest and only new kaiju they created as Monster X, and that was it. I have nothing against the main monsters that we all know and love. But we need some fresh monsters. I love Mothra and King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla, but having them in mostly ever movie after the other tends to become a bit stale for me.
I hope Toho creates more kaiju in future Godzilla films, or at least update a few underrated kaiju like Megalon.
If they can update Gigan and make him look badass, they can do the same for other kaiju as well.
Arrow and I talked a little bit about this on the old forums. Biollante, Destoryah, Orga, Megaguirus, and Monster X are proof that they still wanna try new things. Bringing back old monsters like Moguera, Gigan, and King Caesar shows that they want to give some of the lesser known ones more time in the spotlight.
They want to do new things instead of repeating the same crap over and over but the problem is, as Arrow pointed out when we talked about this, is that Toho is having a hard time getting new or old obscure kaiju to catch on. They've fallen into a trap that is nothing but a vicious circle where people won't see a movie simply because the monster is new or they don't know who Gorosarus is, but in turn will whine and bitch that they would like to take a break from seeing MecgaGodzilla and King Ghidorah in almost every damn film.
Toho wants to do something different, they want to try new things because if someone like Biollante catches with the causal moviegoer then that's more merchandise they can make a profit off of. True even the popular monsters like Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Rodan, MechaGodzilla, and Mothra were new at one point in time but monsters like Orga just haven't clicked with people the same way as they have.
I would love to see Toho try something different that would catch on, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I never want to see MechaGodzilla and King Ghidorah ever again. I want to see them again, I just don't want to see them all the time. It's like eating pizza everyday, I love pizza but even I would get sick of it if I was eating nothing but pizza for two whole weeks. I would like to see new monsters or some of the old school kaiju like Titanosarus and get a break from Mothra, who has been in three F'N films the past decade. I like Mothra but 3 films is just too much.
