Godzilla 2000: Orga's Roar

Postby GodzillaFan64 » Sat Nov 06, 2010 7:42 am

Has anyone besides me ever noticed that Orga has a different roar in the Japanese and American versions of the film?

It's higher in the original version.

I always liked Orga having a lower pitched roar better. It fits him more than a higher pitched roar.

I think he has Desghidorah's roar in the original Japanese version. They changed it in the American release to make him sound more menacing.

For whatever reason, Toho deepened Orga's cry, making it more of a bellow. As strange as it may be, I like it more than the high-pitched cry. :?

On a related note, did anybody think Destoroyah's cry was different from the ones in the Atari games? :eh:

A whole original roar was engineered for the US version of G2K. It is not altered in any way from the original roar. And if you listen to the Audio Commentary, the US roar has a little girl's voice in it. Man, imagine that kind of kid being denied in a candy store, lolz

If you own the GPN Creshendo soundtrack or any of the Atari games, you've heard the Japanese roar.

Apparently they changed it to sound scarier in the American version..

It makes sense to have a deep bellow for a creature of Orga's size. Big dogs have deep voices.

There was a video having the Japanese Orga roars but got removed by the user for some reason.Only the U.S. Orga roars I have found on Youtube.Sorry.
EDIT: I've found the Japanese Orga roars by the same uploader who uploaded the U.S. roars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb0z2Z8X8F0

I've only seen the Japanese version twice (i think), but the American version has a entire re-made sound design. Practically all the special effects sound effects are different. From explosion to tires squealing. The music also received an overhaul and its for the better. The mixing of Godzilla's roars with the original g2k and GINO was a nice touch (something good to come out of GINO). I've always wanted a cut that'd be the dialogue audio with subs from the Japanese version with the sound changes from the American one. Have my cake and eat it too.
The dead animals in KOM are a result of high powered signals sent from aliens,to awaken the dormant monsters. Animals with similar senses are overloaded from the signal &drop dead. That way much of the world will be destroyed in prep for the invasion.

On the commentary they say they didn't use the '98 roar at all.

It was. The movie version used a soul ripping whine or bellow while the games used this annoying hissy shrike.

ARE YOU SURE??? Cause I'm pretty sure its littered throughout Godzilla 2000. Not his full out roar, its more like his elephant like growl's. Just cause they say it doesn't make it true.

This isn't a great link (guy filming his tv while his dog with a jingling collar walks around) but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQKmz5E5 ... re=related
you can hear it plenty of times:
-0:49 after dodging Orga's back hand
-2:02 after Orga jumps and lands before Godzilla gets hit by the space ship.
-3:12 after Godzilla atomic breaths the ship and Orga

If you haven't seen GINO it might be hard to spot but watch two Godzilla scene's from both (specifically the car chase at the end of GINO and the night time Tokyo fight for 2000, just cause i think that's the most roaring scene's for both films).

According to the sound guy they couldn't even have access to GINO materials if they tried.

^Yep, they said they only had sample from the original roars. Not sure if I believe them, though. :)

I have yet to see the original Japanese cut, but the US version is one of my favorite films.

J. Peter Robinson's additional music kicks all kinds of ass, and Hattori's themes don't get enough credit IMO.

I have no use for these digital copy/UV things, so I'll give codes away whenever I buy a disc. I currently have a code for Jurassic Park, PM me if you want it!
