You keep using Kiryu, and I'll go medieval on your asses!" And then they use Kiryu again, and she helps them/him! What the hell? The final battle should have been Godzilla and Mothra vs. Kiryu, or a three-way battle, not Kiryu and Mothra vs. Godzilla. Why the hell would she help Kiryu when the entire point of her role in this movie is "KIRYU = BAD"?

Also, on a slightly unrelated note, I hate the fact that this is the first time Mothra and Mechagodzilla are together in the same movie, and they don't even really interact all that much. WHERE WAS MY MOTHRA VS. MECHAGODZILLA SCENE, TOHO?

You're reading it to be too black-and-white. Despite Mothra wishing Godzilla's bones be returned, she couldn't allow him simply to run rampant. Kiryu was a means to an end in stopping Godzilla.

Was it entirely faithful to it's own plot? No, not particularly. But none of the Millennium films were really.

I think you missed the part where Mothra said she would protect humanity from Godzilla. When she and Godzilla actually got around to fighting, she was very clearly completely outmatched. She NEEDED Kiryu's assistance to defeat Godzilla, and even then she got killed in the process. She wanted the original Godzilla's bones put back to rest, yes, but the new Godzilla was an actual physical threat whereas Kiryu was simply something that really rubbed her the wrong way. Priorities, man, priorities.

And really Mothra never helps Kiryu. Her children distract Godzilla and cocoon him, but neither they nor Mothra actually fight alongside him. I would say they were on the same side, just that they're both against Godzilla.

He did go berserk again...

But he didn't go on a rampage. Kiryu made his wishes clear to Chujo through those mental flashes of the events of Gojira, and GxMG that he doesn't want to fight anymore (Reflecting Sara's view of Kiryu from GxMG). That's why he flew with Godzilla in his grasps out to sea where they can both rest in peace.
