Human cast speculation (occupation, returning characters)

Postby the H-man cometh » Thu Jul 29, 2010 4:54 pm

A lot has already been discussed about the direction people want this film to go in, whether its Godzilla's look, his opponent, who should direct, the musical score ect...
but one thing not many people have talked about yet is what role the human characters should play.

Now I think everybody can agree that we dont just want some 2-dementional card board cut out type characters that nobody gives two craps about,
but at the same time you dont want them to become such a focal point that they take up most of the screen time and push Godzilla to the side too much.

Ideally you would want a middle ground,
but what kind of people would you want to be the main characters milatary? reporters? scientists? average citezens? all of the above?

And if you have a specific idea in mind of what kind of characters you'd want, what kind of actors would you want to play them?

They need to stay the hell away most of the time, no shitty love story, no love interests, NO MEGAN FOX, etc.

Id like to see the point of view of different characters but not to the point where they are more important then the monster(S). It should be more like Godzilla 1954 were you have a small cast and its about survival.

Something that was done like in GMK or Godzilla against Mechagodzilla could work.

I don't want a movie where the characters act like nothing is going on in the back ground.

I like it how the Original Godzilla had a love triangle go on, but could do it and have more of an emotional impact than a lot of movies these days without having to have the characters look at each other for long periods of time and make out on camera. Gay.

I'd like to see a story where the characters are mostly soldiers, stuck in the middle of whatever is going on. (Godzilla, Godzilla vs. a Monster)

A Gay Romantic Godzilla movie? Well, heres to the "modern family". That would certainly give this film a new edge.

I think that the human characters should be slightly cliche, but also different. I mean, I don't think you can get away with a film of this scale without having:

The man looking for his family
The news reporter
The random black guy.

Joking of course. But I mean, I dont think there is any problem with having the cliched characters as long as they are portrayed the right way. Not another GINO with Audrey, but more of that sense of realism where these people are ordinary people and that this is happening to them just as it would happen to you type thing. No, I don't want this to be a Titanic, but a movie with real human characters.

No teenagers or if there are any none of the bitchy kind (believe or not there are mature teenagers), no offense meant to the younger members. At least one scientist but don't make him a know it all, let him be just as surprised as everyone else when they discover some thing new about the big G (like his regeneration).

I need to agree with most of this, but.....I know many people who would see the movie for Megan Fox, alone.

Yeah...I know quite a few people who would want to see the movie for Megan Fox too  but I hope she stays far away from this project, I want this movie to stay as far far far away from the transformers formula of pants on head stupid action movie's as possible.

And also for the love of all that is holy, no anoying stuttering Shia Labeouf or any character even remotely like him, the last thing I want to see is some wussy awkwerd teenager who buddie's up with Godzilla to save the universe

I want relatable and human characters first off. It doesn't matter their background they just have to have their own engaging story, and not just act as filler while we wait for the monster to show up again.

I want a bunch of fat little nerds all sitting around a screen eating junk food while watching and bitching about Godzilla as he tramples a city or fights another monster. That would be the whole movie.

^ Chris, this is why you should direct this movie.

Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, no big name actors or actresses. You can throw in some up-and-coming ones, but don't toss in someone just for audience to oogle.

I'd favor an approach similar to Godzilla vs Biollante. Have a bunch of diverging plotlines, but interconnected, in order to give the film some scope and get different point of views as to the Godzilla crisis. The character's internal problems should be conveyed in a low key way a la Dr. Shirigami (who is clearly a broken man from his daughter's death, but Omori wisely didn't make us sit through a heavy-handed monologue about it) and we would need differing moral perspectives as to the monster. We would need an anti-Godzilla crowd, a pro-Godzilla crowd, and everyone in between, from the jaded to the completely idiotic.

Just as a change of pace, I wouldn't like to see military types as the main characters. Most Godzilla films since Godzilla vs Megagurius has centered on nationalist heroes trying to bring the big lizard down. But you assume they must focus on the military to some degree and I'd prefer an exasperated, flailing battle of wits a la Godzilla vs Biollante where the heroes are more human, less idealized, and generally at the big lizard's mercy.

Troof.

And I'd like to see a cryptozoologist. Cause, you know, it would be interesting to have a "hack" scientist character for once.
But I, that am not shaped for sportive tricks
Nor made to court an amorous looking-glass;
I, that am rudely stamped, and want love's majesty
To strut before a wanton ambling nymph.

Well, there was Aaron Vaught in the original GINO script...

Why not try having a succesful adult, satisfied with his power, popularity, and riches. Godzilla comes, makes everything he values totally worthless, and he has to deal with this new world, where he is now anonymous.

Should they recreate Steve Martin from "Godzilla, King of the Monsters!" in the movie?

I'd love to see the return of characters that are much like the ones in the Showa series. Or at least a tribute to those kind of characters.

We need teenagers that will turn this into a coming of age story. Jk

I dunno, I hope we get a Frank West news reporter type. How about Gerard Butler?
