Explaining the Heisei Timeline (Official)

Questions about the GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH and the Heisei timeline pop up frequently on the fan forums (there have been a least three threads on the subject in the past month alone) so I revised an old explanation and added some new information, quotes, and screenshots. For anyone who is interested, the report is now on SciFi Japan.

Interesting Article, explains an awful lot. Thanks!

Yes... This article is great. The whole "stable time loop" thing makes perfect sense (I personally disbelieve in the theoretical possibility of changing the past). You could call it fan wank, but frankly the subject is so convoluted no plausible explanation could be anything else. I love it.

You know GMK is not part of the Heisei movies universe right?

GMK Godzilla is immortal. He'll come back not matter what. It's the same one from '54, but lost souls bring him back to life and use him as a vessel. It's very fantasy oriented rather than sci-fi.

Well, okay. There clearly were two Godzillasauruses, you're right. But it's all got nothing to do with GMK. Totally separate continuity. The first one's location was never really known for sure, but it got mutated by Bikini Atoll bomb tests and attacked in 1954. It was destroyed on a molecular level by the Oxygen Destroyer. It's dead. The second Godzilla was moved off Lagos in 1944, before the first Godzilla's creation, and put in the Bering Sea. It slept/stayed there until 1977, when a Russian nuclear submarine sank (was destroyed?) and mutated it into a second (Heisei) Godzilla. This one laid dormant until the volcanic eruption on Daikoku Island in 1984, which woke it up, prompting it to appear in Japan. It was then imprisoned in Mt. Mihara. It was released by BioMajor's bombs in 1989, when it fought Biollante. It then became sick with the ANB infection and laid dormant in its (probably) perceived homeland, the Bering Sea. The Teiyo Group's submarine made it bigger and stronger, and the rest is history. King Ghidorah, on the other hand, was left on Lagos in the form of the three Dorats, which were mutated during an H-bomb test into King Ghidorah. After its defeat by Godzilla, it lay comatose in the Sea of Okhotsk until Emi came in the 23rd century and resurrected it as the cyborg Mecha King Ghidorah. Hope that explains it :)

There was no Showa Godzillasaurus, just to point that out. The original and second Showa Godzilla was a land/sea reptile thing that got nuked. I think it's weird to go back and rewrite their origins just because of what happened in a Heisei movie.

There was no Godzillasaurus in the Showa era.

I remember in KKvsG that it was stated that Godzilla was a Dinosaur Hybrid, and the whole Gojirasaurus (That they call the Godzillasurus in the Japanese version of the movie) origin should only be used for the Heisei series only. I hate people use it for the other movies.

NO. The first Godzilla is the terror from 1954. He gets offed by the Oxygen Destroyer. The second Godzilla is the Godzilla seen through the duration of the Heisei series.

NOTHING is erased. The events of 1954 still happen, otherwise Destroyah would never exist, as do the events of 1984 and 1989, otherwise SpaceGodzilla would never exist, and Yuki wouldn't have a vendetta against Godzilla for killing Gondo. The Futurians, basing their actions on an author's theory, only fulfill the second Godzilla's birth because they never bothered to study up on the history of the Bering Sea.

I'm tired of trolling noobs.

Anyway, while the events as seen in the movies tend to be pretty confusing to most people, Keith's outline is very easy to follow honestly.

Honestly, even though that's the type of response I'd expect from Tyler, I'd be lying if I said that didn't get a small laugh out of me.
