The Castlevania series discussion thread

Postby mecha-gino » Sun Sep 26, 2010 9:09 pm

If it's not a Nintendo/Capcom/Sonic/Sony related franchise, then Castlevania is byfar one of my favorite game series out there. I own 1-4 and Symphony of the Night and while I haven't beaten any of them yet cause I'm not in the mood, I still love them. They're hard, but very fun.

Now with the new game coming out next week, you know people are going to claim it to be a God of War clone but God Damn does it look fun! And hopefully it'll be in my mail box by next thursday(don't fail me gamefly! D:<)

I enjoy the games before they made so many of them, and made the timeline so confusing (Simailr to Zelda). Symphony of the Night, and Castlevania 3 are my favorites.

Well the game is already getting shipped off from gamefly and I should have it by Wednesday.

Here's hoping it's good.

AVGN is up loading his Castlevania reviews from last year on Youtube if you miss out on them. I still think Castlevania 2 was a pretty decent game.

I watched GameTrailers review of the game and they said it's 20 hours. I'm not sold on the battle system yet. I'll have to rent it though to form an informed opinion on it.
Apparently SWTOR said that I can invite 25 people for a 7 day trial of the game. PM me if interested.

Yeah. I would be quite surprised if the second disc was all just special features.

I still wish they never skreeonk up the timeline so badly since they made so many games now, its hard to tell which game takes place.

I haven't played any of these games in a long time. But I always thought it was cool that a close friend of mine had a Tubo Duo (Turbo Grafix short lived 32 bit console). And he got an import of Dracula X, one of the best CV games ever IMHO. I hear it is finally available for Wii Virtual Console (XBox live also maybe??) But still it was awesome to play a game that very few other people knew about (The SNES version paled in comparison). Also we were one of the few that weren't confused at the opening stage of Symphony of the Night. Also I know it sounds a little cheezy, but I always wanted to see a CV game set in the future (robotic zombies, laser whips, just make it crazy fun!), just to break up the monotony. Dracula (at the very least) is supposed to only be able to appear every hunded years... but how many games have there been? ;)

Die monsters, you don't belong here!
It's not my fault I am brought back to life, it was Huuumans who brought me back to pay tribute.
Tribute? You steal men's souls and make them into your slave
Perhaps the same could be said about all religons
Your words are empty as your soul, mankind I'll needs a savior like you
what is a man? A miserable pile of secrets, but enough of this HAVE AT YOU!

Epic bump for Gyaos.

Castlevania The Adventure was the first Gameboy game that I got back in 1998. I had a lot of fun with that game even though I never finish it.

I need to search for previous threads more often. -_-

So.....Simon's Quest. Hardest title of the Castlevania series?

^ Almost as hard as Belmont's Revenge!

Seriously, Haunted Castle is by far the hardest game in the series.

I honestly thought Haunted Castle was a cake walk. :eh:

Well, I went back and played Haunted Castle again. There are a few different revisions of the PCB; I'd played version M years ago, which has the difficulty turned up to 11, but the others are more manageable. I was able to clear it after a few nights' efforts. I guess you played one of the other revisions as well (and if you were playing version M, damn). It was fun, and I'm glad I gave this game another shot.

However, even the easier versions of Haunted Castle have much tougher fighting and platforming than Simon's Quest. On top of that, you have four lives at most to complete the entire game, while Simon's Quest gives you unlimited continues, right from where you died.

Simon's Quest is hard, though, in figuring out what the hell you're supposed to do at any given point in time. Use holy water to break down the back wall of a random room? Kneel in an arbitrary spot with a certain item equipped? If that's what you meant by Simon's Quest being hard, I would agree, but it's action component is possibly the easiest of the series.

With Haunted Castle out of the way, I'd say the toughest action in classic-vania is either the second loop of the U.S. version of Dracula's Curse, or the higher loops & harder difficulties of Castlevania Chronicles / X68.

And Bumped.

So I finally got to playing the new game that's been waiting in my drawer for over 3 months and I must say it does get annoying from time to time like those quick time events where you just gotta wait for the right moment to hit any of the buttons. I hate it that if you skreeonk up with that when fighting a boss, they managed to gain health but what I think I hate the most other then the lack of health power ups(I swear those things are scarce, espically during before the fight with the ice titan) is the camera. That and I feel certain things need to be brighter like when you have to throw a grenade at something and you can't see it. I've only gotten to the part where you encounter a giant spider, so I've got a long way to go before I finish it and I HOPE to fight some vampires soon.

Edit: P.S. It's a God of War clone kind of and I don't give a skreeonk, with my gripes aside it's still kind of fun.

Gametrailers pretty much did a video that connects everything in one timeline, so there's your solution.
