The Official TMNT thread

Postby mecha-gino » Wed Jul 28, 2010 1:11 pm

Well, I felt like bring this back from the old forum.
So yeah, from the comics to the cartoons to the movies discuss all things tmnt related.

Oh and if you're going to say one series is better then the other please explain why.

Now I perfer the 2003 series over the 1987, because it's not campy or as silly as the classic, has WAAAY better plots and... Continuity? I never knew tmnt had that prior to the final seasons of the classic series, and it was like the comics but different too. It's dark, with death and that was made by 4kids no less.... And that's about it... Oh and Raph was the badass the 1987 series should be.

Comics wise, I've been meaning to read them and soon I will. I'm quite interested in reading both including the Archie stuff, I'm really interested in that and I sort of wish the story got finished and it was suppose to last year... It it weren't for viacom. ):< And the Mirage comics might of been cancelled too! D:

I'm annoyed with the release of Turtles Forever that we're stuck with. Which is a shame, 'cause that kicked all sorts of ass.

Lesse, my favorite thing TMNT related would have to be either the '80s cartoon series or the 1990 live-action movie, both of which were entertaining, nostalgic fun. The two TMNT sequels sucked ass, but the 2007 CGI movie was alright. I never saw much of the 2k3 cartoon, but what little I did see of it failed to impress me. TMNT: The Next Mutation should be killed with fire. I think that's it in a half-shell (/lame joke).

I take it that it's still be the cut up version? I do agree, that sucks big time. I guess I won't buy it then since I already have it on DVD from when it aired.
I was mentioned in the SciFi Japan article about the appearence of extras on the Godzilla vs. Megalon DVD.

Yea, Nickelodeon is already coming out of the gate and failing with their first attempt. There is absolutely no excuse they can use for why they can not give us the full, uncut version of "Turtles Forever" and in widescreen.

I definitely preferred the 2003 series over the 80's toon. I loved finally seeing the turtles using real martial arts fighting and fighting a Shredder who was genuinely threatening and not the bumbling oaf from the 80's show. I am so angry at Funimation for not finishing their season set releases for Season 3 and the first half of Season 4. I didn't like "Fast Forward" initially, but after buying the dvds, I learned that they weren't THAT bad. "Back To The Sewer" was a big disappointment. But "Turtles Forever" made up for it.

Has anyone else e-mailed Paramount about their inability to use the uncut version of the Turtles Forever? I did, for what little good it will do. But it made me feel better that I voiced my opinion.

I want more TPBs of the Archie Comics Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures.

Issue 72 alone goes for $20-$30. Was sad to see Ninjara and Raph break up :(
Wataru
TK's Resident Comic Book God & Raggedy Ann Enthusiast.
Sandy Frank dubs. All others are fail.

Bump!

Well people, the DVD is almost here. Has anyone interested seen the DVD cover yet?

http://www.battlegrip.com/wp-content/up ... 20x680.jpg

... wow. I'm so glad they're treating possibly the best thing Turtles-related with such respect and enthusiasm. Viacom's really inspired me with a lot of confidence as to how they're gonna treat the franchise. I mean, take a look as this awesome thing. Isn't it wonderful. Doesn't it make you excited and want to rush to buy it. Oh, and combine that with the fact that we're getting a cut version in fullscreen after Lord know's how long ago the thing aired on television. The Turtles are in good hands now, folks!

Ha ha ha.... Sarcasm.

Yeah, that box art sucks and blows balls! I mean if you're walking by it with virtually no knowledge of it how are you suppose to know it involves a crossover with the original tmnt?

Oh and bad news comic wise... The comics are ending again... Till the writer comes up with something. And since we're on the subject of the comics, apperently the archies series wasn't finished and all the loose ends were suppose to be tied up last year as apart of the shelleversity.... Until Viacom flucked everything up. :\

I kind of see why the new film is coming out in 2012.... It's the 25th anniversary of the show.

What're you talking about? I was being completely serious. That box art is virtually flawless. We get a bland green cover and a picture of the 2k3 Turtles. What more could you want? Something creative, interesting, and gives you some kind of hint that this'll be more than what it seems? A whisper of the classic '88 Turtles? Ha, don't know what kind of universe you're living in. Bland, boring, and uninteresting cover art rules.

I kind of see why the new film is coming out in 2012.... It's the 25th anniversary of the show.

Eh... I'm not filled with high hopes. I personally wanted the series to take a break after Turtles Forever. That just had a sense of "closure" to it and, like I said, was one the best things to come out of the franchise, wrapping up 25 years of TMNT history. It's not like I wanted them to go away forever, but a little longer would've been nice. I'll still see it anyway, of course. I own all three of the original '90s live-action movies (yes, even the dreadful TMNT 3) as well as the 2007 TMNT movie.

Now I'm just waiting for the release of the last two seasons of the original TMNT. "Red sky" episodes weren't that great, and their attempt to be "dark and edgy" flew right in the face of everything I loved about the old cartoon, but it'd be nice to have 'em anyway.

Yeah, and I hope to *insert religious denity* that they don't cancelled because of Viacom because that would blow so so SO very much. But... There's something you forgot to mention... They should have the two missing tv-movies, the turtle planet one! As I heard that's quite a big event in the series, and it should be part of the final sets or a stand alone DVD itself.

But what quite sucks for fans of the newer series is that... It's quite screwy getting the series on dvd, as they decided ti release a few episodes on DVD at a time, and then one company did the smart thing and did seasons one part one and two plus season two part one and two... But I think S2P2 never got released and they lost the license. D:

Oh they released Season 2 Part 2. I have it. I was hoping they would continue with Season 3 but then the buyout happened.

I honestly don't know about buying Turtles Forever. I'll wait to see first if it is the cut or uncut version and then if I find it around here. But I'll have to wait and see.

The DVD being sold on the 24th is the edited version and in fullscreen. I believe the uncut version was streaming on 4Kids' website. Might still be there, in fact. I haven't heard anything about a widescreen, uneditied version myself. As far as I know, there isn't even much in the way of special features. Not even the cover art is any good.

Long story short: this is the complete definition of a barebones release.

You can also see it on youtube as well. I just would like to watch it without interruption from commercials.

This post is almost a week old, but I hadn't seen it 'till today. For the purpose of discussion, I'm going to bump this and respond to it here:
mecha-gino wrote:Uhhh... You kind of forget that the turtles were originally dark, as they first appeared in the comics and then the 80's show. :\. Infact the comics are waaaay more dark then the 03 show, as I recalled many innocent people were killed after a feud with the foot clan. I really need to read the mirage comics.

I don't deny that you can make darker stories with the Turtles. But you are aware that the early comics were that dark because they were parodying the Frank Miller comics of the time (hence '84 Leonardo's narration). The point is that the Turtles' franchise, from its very beginning, was always tongue-in-cheek.

My gripe is with the fans who demand that be the only take on the Turtles. What long-running franchise has remained consistently dark and gritty? Godzilla hasn't, Batman hasn't, Spider-Man hasn't, you get the point. What the fans who harp of the '80s toon for being child-friendly ignore is that this was the cartoon that made the Turtles what they are. Everything we got after that - the toys we loved as kids, the live-action movies we saw in theaters, the dreaded Next Mutation (which we shall never speak of again), that... Coming Out of Their Shells tour (that we shall never speak of again), the 2k3 cartoon, and the CGI movie - came from this cartoon. Kids loved it. I loved it and I still enjoy it today. Admittedly, the 1980s cartoon hasn't aged well. But we should still respect it for what it did for the franchise.
