It started a little while ago technically, but only really got to TK about August when Lamango was unbanned. It was sort of an in-joke among him that spread around. Of course everyone thinks Maguma's cool because he's a fairly unused creation, but it's Lamango who began the MAGUMA IS THE BEST idea.

Actully he came up with it because i said Baragon could beat Maguma if only i had known. :?

No way dude, he was doing it in AIM chats long before you were around.

Any Toho monster would take one look at Cthulhu and go insane like Kenji Sahara in Rodan.

Guys, this isn't fantasy matches, please quit whining about Baragon being able to beat Maguma. This thread is about Maguma, not Baragon.

Maguma is a giant walrus, but you could also say that Varan is a giant flying dragon, a kind of lizard that glides.

I made the thread. Generally, you're allowed to make rules for a thread if you started it. Per example, if I ask for a thread to be locked, it can be locked.

On that note, will a mod please lock this?

Yeah but he isn't as basic and simple looking as Maguma.

Every monster is rather basic and simple looking.

Varan has a much better design than Maguma. I would like to see the overgrown walrus come back in a later film though.
Wasnt he supposed to be in DAM?

From what I understand, Tanaka squeezed in Maguma at the last second because he thought adding a kaiju would rake in more $$$. A similar thing happened in Atragon with Manda. The movie would more of less play the same without the inclusion of a monster.

@GodzillaDude: Creative creshmative. Creativity =/= Potential.

King Kong is just a giant skreeonk gorilla. So why is HE a bigger icon than any of Toho's monsters?

And for skreeonk's sake, I never said Maguma was more creative than Varan - just that Varan isn't special. So quit trying to make SUCH a case Varan is SO superior to Maguma.

@zilla: I'm a fan of Godzilla and many of his films. Not a fan of his minor one-off co-stars who Toho gives not a shit about anyway, nor of his later film outings. But I love the Showa series and Toho's Big Seven, and yes, a few others.
