I've always really liked King Caesar. I find the fact that the movie has a more science based monster and a supernatural one a nice little way to mix it up. The fact that he's a Shisa golem is pretty cool. I would enjoy seeing him again in a future Godzilla film (not counting Final Wars because of his limited screen time).

Ha, I love this^

Yeah that's the video I've seen, but I've heard there's more, like KC sleeping and MG shooting missiles at him
No clue where you heard that. Pretty sure that's a croc of shit.

Even if anything like that did exist, Toho removes deleted scenes from youtube on a daily basis, so they'd never show up there.

Well, the international version that's been on VHS/LaserDisc/DVD since the 80's is exactly the same as the JP version. All that's different are the English credits. You're not missing anything..

The concept of the monster is great...but for some reason some of these local/native "gods" of any given group of people are always so hard to take seriously in terms of design. King Caesar is basically a bipedal dog...i could never get around that as it never conveyed a sense of "capability" that the designs of Mothra had (another god/protector)

So I love King Caesar to death, he's my favorite monster, but what was the whole deal when his ears flopped up, what does it mean, because they stayed up until he went back to sleep

I actually dig Caesar. He's just an interesting monster, and I love the fact that they incorporated a mythological basis for him.
I'm back? I guess. Haven't posted here in a loooooong time.

i always thought he was kinda goofy, personally. perhaps if they hadn't taken a break after the next film they could have included him more and developed him some, but he has always seemed like a bit of a throw away character to me.

also, mechagodzilla was whooping his ass till godzilla showed up.

yea i know, but mechagodzilla still figured out what he needed to do to start kicking his ass and did it. KC would have ended up dead if godzilla hadn't shown up.

EDIT: that eye reflection trick was pretty cool though.

Too bad it's not practical against opponents like King Ghidorah or any opponent that doesn't aim for the head.

Maybe his eye attracts beams aimed anywhere near him.
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

It's obvious, he's popped a boner. You know, seeing Godzilla getting his ass kicked, he couldn't control himself.
Of course it showed his ears doing that, couldn't the other thing with... rating or something...

So when he's angry his ears flop up? I thought it was for better hearing, because mecha g let out a screetch and then his ears flopped up.

You might be right, you MIGHT be right, but I still saw it as like when you make a strange noise to a dog, and sometimes its ears will flop up in confusion. Maybe we could get other peoples opinion?

i'd imagine it's more of an involuntary reaction to surprise or the need to be more alert.

Even though King Caesar was not a mammal or even an organic creature, the ears standing up seemed normal for animal instincts. Almost all creatures have the natural instinct to appear more opposing to their enemies. Frill lizards for example will expand their frills to seem deadly, or other animals will stand upright to give a sense of size to their enemy.

One has to admit, King Caesar looks more imposing with his ears up rather than down.

Using that theory, King Caesar might have been just trying to intimidate Mechagodzilla by seeming larger, not realizing the tactic would have been wasted on a mechanical opponent.
