Fandom terminology

Post by Breakdown »

I've noticed other fanbases like Transformers have diffrent terms like GEEWUN for those obsessed over G1 and "Gold Plastic Syndrome" for a defect with gold colored plastic. Does the Godzilla fanbase have any fan-terms? GINO is one that immediatly comes to mind.

Does describing Destoroyah as "Looking like the god damn devil," count as one?

"Goji" and "Big G" come to mind.
Q: Will we see that monster that Bryan was going to reveal this morning at the press conference?
Cranston: Oh yeah! The only Godzilla movie with an X-rating.

Off topic, but that's a nice avatar, Legion1979. Is that Dodongo a custom, looks like one.
I know it's not strictly a fandom term, but I use "Shit Fit" for kaiju attacks. I also have nicknames for a lot of Kaiju, like "Balki" for Balkzardan. I also think GKG for Grand King Ghidorah, SMG for Super MechaGodzilla, and MKG for Mecha King Ghidorah were acronyms coined by the fans. Also, I use King Mons for the Kaiju actually known as King of Monsters.

Shortening kaiju names in general is something the fandom does. It's really irritating. Dessy, Gammy, Angy, etc.

I know every fandom has its own terms. But that one really REALLY Bugs, its just so idiotic (btw... not calling you an idiot Gyaos, just the term... Kind of like Trukk NOT Munkey or whatever it is. As for Godzilla, There are a few in addition to the ones already named. Beam-Wars is used alot in referrence to battles often seen in the Heisei films. I think they are cool myself, but a lot of people seem to use the term in a negative connotation.
To all you dub preservationists, my friends, you have my eternal thanks 8-) . Never stop what you do, you are amazing!

And on the opposite end of the kaiju combat spectrum, there's 'T&C' for 'tooth and claw' melee battles.

I've heard "Megs" be used for Megaguirus.

"Dessy" is just extra irritating though. I don't know why, but it is.

^ Well, he's the goddamn devil, after all. Giving him a cute, non-threatning nickname like that can't help but feel stupid.

Eh. We're just too lazy to type in the other half of their name.

I was just about to say something about shortening movie titles. When talking about the other eras, it's not uncommon to see G vs whomever.

^ That's not unique to the fandom. A TV Guide description I saw a while back for GvsG referred to him as a 'giant space chicken.'

I have never understood that. HOW does Gigan resemble a chicken - or do people so desperately need a reference point that they grab the closest conceivable thing and go with it??

A chicken isn't even the closest conceivable thing. All they share in common is a beak. Godzilla of all kaiju shares more in common with a chicken than Gigan does.

Eh I dunno. Gigan definitely has some vague "chicken-ness" to him, besides the beak.

The above two can also apply to Rodan and the Giant Condor.
