It doesn't have to look classy to begin with cause people are just going to see it as a Godzilla movie.

Well, I suppose it all has to do with marketing. I don't think marketing Godzilla vs. Biollante like an Asylum film is the best idea, because the film is not like that.

Honestly, the cover doesn't look like an Asylum film to me. An Asylum-style cover might be an improvement, honestly. Their cover art usually kicks ass.

Yes.

mxg744, I hope you don't view this as everyone being super picky (well okay, we are) and ganging up. As I stated earlier, cover art I like or otherwise, this is a release I would buy and actually double dip for both the BRD and DVD. However, I just feel as though the tone and attitude of the film could be more accurately represented.

Content matters more than cover, right? I mean, at least Godzilla and Biollante look right, despite the change in height.

That is true. I will still be the release as long as the video quality is better than the VHS, regardless on whether or not I like the cover or not.

I admit that cover is odd. Have you guys thought about simply using a Toho poster for the cover, then just replacing the japanese text with american text? Kinda like how MB did it.

Did you know EBHE releases a lot of Asylum films? :)

I actually sent almost all of you guys' art related comments on to our marketing and art design team, maybe they can do something with it.
What would you say if we offered a printable alternate cover like a few video games in the past have done?

Also, I just got two approvals this morning. It looks like we have the OK from Toho for us to use some of the bonus features from their BD release. And I got the approval to work with Ed G on some supplemental bonus features from my bosses as well. So now I just have to figure out English subtitles and how much we can fit on the disc.

Add something exclusive and special to the Blu-ray, so I'll have another reason to double-dip.

You guys could do what Shoutfactory does, and have a flip-cover so customers could display it with the art they like better. Otherwise I'll be alright with whatever cover you guys decide to release it with.

Personally, I think you guys should just use the HBO Cover art it always stood out among the rest of the Godzilla VHS covers back in the day. Also for the English audio are you using the HBO LD or something else?

Everything sounds good. As long as it has Toho's approval FIRST ;) . As for the Cover Art. I actually like the original design you shared from EBHE. If you wanted to put the Toho advance artwork poster on a reversable cover, I dont think anyone would object. Just as long as it dosen't look like this:

I have to agree that old 1980s art was amazing...if we got a printout alternate cover, that's the one I'd want.

mxg744, this is just amazing how much communication we're having. Years ago, there used to be some contact with home theater forums with reps from Fox and Paramount, but they were always driven away. I hope we can maintain a friendly dialog with you during your time here.

Are there any other G titles that your company has the rights for?

I do have another question for mxg..... do you plan on releasing the dvd or the bluray of this film first? I notice alot of titles were ushered to DVD rather quickly and the blurays began to follow up behind them by maybe a couple of months or so. Just curious, that's all and thanks.

No, sorry. We only recently acquired the rights to GvB in our deal with Miramax. o.Supreme mentioned that no one has released Godzilla 1985 on DVD in the US before, so maybe I can convince our acquisitions team to look into that if this release does well.

I think we are doing both at the same time, but we don't have the dates locked so I can't say for sure. I know that we are authoring the DVD from the same source as the BD, so we will have both master ready for production about the same time and our marketing/release team will most likely want to release both on the same day.

Also, I just realized earlier today I never told you guys a few things that might interest you....

I am currently managing the authoring of just over 100 DVDs and BDs mixed. That number is in fluctuation all the time and is odd to consider really. When I started this position in 2005, I only managed the authoring of around 500 discs up through 2007 when I moved on to some other duties for a few years. Now we are regularly authoring 30+ per month and have big upswings like right now every 6 months. In just the last 10 months we have authored 800+ discs!

So, yeah, GvB is very special. There are a lot of films and discs that don't even get a second thought about them here. We just churn them out and no one thinks about it. I'm truly excited and happy that I convinced my bosses to stop the release last year. I don't think I ever told anyone on this site, but we were sooooo close to releasing the DVD last year with audio that I think sounds worse than any previous release, and the video wasn't much better. Everyone just thought we got a master for the film, so it must be good. Somehow though, in some strange moment of G-inspiration, I just said no. I told them its unacceptable and unfixable. Now here we are, well over a year later and the master is close to acceptable and we are looking forward to a release both we and the fans can be proud of, hopefully :D

Just something to chew on... now back to work

Ditto. I'm definitely getting this movie on DVD when its released, which will hopefully be in time for Christmas, because I sorely wish to relieve myself of the three bootlegs I do own, one of which is Godzilla vs. Biollante. I'm glad I will finally be able to ditch my crappy Japanese-audio bootleg and have a proper DVD. I do hope this DVD goes well so that Echo Bridge can release Return of Godzilla as well.

Now if only Media Blasters could get off their collective ass and release Godzilla vs. Megalon. :sigh:

BTW mxg744 what our your plans for just the dvd, do you think they will put extras, is the quality going to be alot worse than the BD. The point is has your team decided on how they will treat the DVD compared to the BD, i hope you guys can do a good job on the dvd because thats what i want
