Oh man, I really can't stand Super 8

Well I saw the old Spawn movie. I liked it, thought it was fun. (Surprised at how accurate they made the Violator look.) The Devil had some of the worst CGI I've ever seen. But all in all, a fun little movie.

Godzilla (98) - Haven't seen this in a good eight or nine years. And holy skreeonk is it terrible, far worse than any Toho G-film...the acting, effects and writing are all so much worse than I remember. Every attempt at humor falls flat on its face, the romance is contrived and cheesy, with acting ranging from uninspired (Broderick, Reno, Azaria) to downright HORRIBLE (Pitilllo, pretty much all the soldiers). I was rolling my eyes pretty much the whole way through..and this isn't even factoring in how badly it rapes the Godzilla name (then Devlin says in the featurette that their Godzilla is what Toho always intended, but couldn't do because of "man-in-suit" limitations...kiss my ass, half-wit). I used to kinda like this one, but now I can't find any appreciation for it.

@tymon I like the 1998 GODZILLA film on its own merits. Is it perfect? Nope. Is the acting more enjoyable than the sometimes boring & dull acting found in a majority of the 90's Godzilla films? IMO yes. In my eyes, GODZILLA '98 is an enjoyable popcorn film.

On topic:

Batman Forever:

It was an alright film with some pretty decent acting (from Jim "Ace Ventura" Carry & Tommy Lee Jones) but it is just so dull at points and Val Kilmer wasn't quite as good as Michael Keaton as Batman/Bruce Wayne. I do like how it tries to explain Batman's origins

7.5/10

Rambo IV

Before I talk about this movie, I know it's not called Rambo IV, it's just called Rambo. It's the fourth movie, it should be called Rambo IV, not just Rambo. Ok, now for the movie. It's not really a bad movie, it's pretty good, but not as good as First Blood, the first Rambo movie. The action scenes are awesome, yet some scenes I just hate, like the scene with the women dancing and some idiot pesters one of them and I can't explain it, it's just weird. The characters in the movie are good, but Rambo, played by Sylvester Stallone, steals the show, like all the Rambo movies (even Rambo III). The acting is descent, for an action movie. In conclusion, it's not a bad movie, and it's not as good as First Blood, but it's good. Ignore Rotten Tomatoes' rating for it, because it's not that bad. If you like action movies, give it a watch, it's worth it.

My rating: 7.9/10.

My Rambo ratings:

First Blood
Rambo IV
Rambo:First Blood part 2
Rambo III

The Amazing Spiderman. I would've preffered the Lizard's design to be more like the kind of Lizard that is my avatar at the moment, but aside from the facial design, the body design pretty much sums up what I'd like to see in this kind of film. If they ever make a sequel, they should make the Lizard's face more lizard-like. Aside from that flaw, though, the film itself was great.

The comedy classic, Young Frankenstein.

It's one of Mel Brook's finest, with a strong cast and good laughs. Despite having little dialogue, Peter Boyle communicates the creature's thoughts and emotions well with only facial expressions and his eyes. He's a good actor, as is Wilder as the Dr. Fronkenstein.

Sector 7- surprising heart and a pretty grotesque monster design, although the solid half hour of false kills at the end got old quick. And the crackling and snapping the creaturs made after its skin was burned off? Made me sick in the best possible way.

John Carter (2012)
See my thoughts in the thread.

Megamind (2009)
Ok, but overrated. A weak CGI kids film. The CGI was rather good for its stylizing but it was still floppy and weak.
Personally: 2/5
Critically: 2/5

Punisher War Zone (2009)
Still dig it, but it doesnt have the character growth of The Punisher (2004). Ray is perfect as Castle though.
Personally: 3.5/5
Critically: 2.5/5

Chawz- fun monster movie with an odd sense of humor. I liked it, maybe more than Sector 7.

Friday the 13th (1980) - Still a pretty good movie. The atmosphere is creepy and some moments in the movie are pretty scary. I think how they pull off the twist was well done and it was nice seeing the movie again for the first time in years. The movie is not perfect but it's still a pretty good film.

Rocky IV

I watched this on YouTube, and it's still good. I like the Rocky franchise, and I like this movie. It has a good villian, it's funny, it's inspiring, it has action, and the montages are great. People say it's a bad movie, but real men like Rocky IV.

My rating: 9.6/10

Despicable Me (2010) -
Meh, cute, but forgettable. Girlfriend wants to see the sequel. I dont. This and Megamind IMHO are proving that CGI movies arent as good as when they were when it was Shrek, Monster Inc, Toy Story and Finding Nemo.
Personally: 2.5/5
Critically: 3.5/5

Guyver Dark Hero (1994)
skreeonk! I downloaded the PAL edit, which cuts 25 minutes. Still damn good. One of the THESE best live action anime films. Being older now you can see the goofy MMPR stuff in it more though
Personally: 4/5
Critically: 2/5

Prince of Persia The Sands of Time (2010)
Catching up on my 2010-2012 films. I dug it. Jake did a damn good job and buffed up nicely. The princess is SO DAMN ANNOYING. No wonder women got rocks to the head sometimes...jeez.

Dinosaurus(1960). I shit you not. A cheesy film, but it's good in that way. Not really much I have to say about it.

I was already imagining a scene where the Apatosaurus transforms into Keizer Ghdidorah and whoops the T-rex, who turns into a Skyrim dragon and beats him eventually. Now THAT would make the movie completly.

Gigli-A fun gangster film starring Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck. It is IMO an enjoyable film. Its not a godawful film. Besides it also has Christoper Walken in it. The acting was pretty solid

Score: 8.5/10

To me, this doesn't deserve the hate that it gets. People who hate it do so to be cool because everyone else hates it. Those people wanna run with the herd who hate this film.

I took some time to catch up on some earlier 2012 films this weekend:

Journey 2-The Mysterious Island- I’ll start this off by saying, If I hadn’t seen the first film 3 years ago on a Cruise my wife and I were on, I probably would not have bothered with the sequel. But I rented it, and it seemed to be a big hit with our kids. As for me however- I’m not even going to try to compare it to the earlier film with effects by Ray Harryhousen. I liked that version, but this one is just so different. I think what annoyed me most was just the blatant staging of 3D. Of course one could argue that this was a film that was truly filmed in, and meant for 3D (Unlike most others just converted in post). But when you are bouncing berries off of The Rocks man-boobs, and they are coming at the screen, THAT is a little much. The plot seems forced. Teenage angst ridden kid rebels against his stepdad. Stepdad tries desperately to bond with his stepson. The Rock would have been convincing except for the fact that IRL this bonding, if it ever happens can take months, years, not just one event. But then again the movie is only 100 minutes. I guess it would have made more sense if they had started this film when the kid was 14 or 15, and give the “bonding” period a couple of years, so that when the events of this film transpire it would have been much more believable. The CG effects are good for what they are, but if you don’t have kids under the age of 10, you can probably pass on this film.

Wrath of the Titans-freed of the stigma of being attached to a previous Ray Harryhousen film, this sequel was a pleasant surprise, I enjoyed it thoroughly, enough to put it on my DVD wish list to buy. I found myself in a personal paradox with this film. Usually with any special interest I have, I like when a more serious approach is taken. However “Wrath” is arguably lighter than the first film and it benefits much from doing so, yet it never goes to the goofy extreme. The creature effects were well done (both CG and Practical). Perseus was a much more likable character in this film, but I guess having a son will do that too you, instead of being a jerk like he was in the first film. This film also had character I could grow to care about such as Argenon (Poseidon's son) and Haephestus(sp?) brilliantly portrayed by Bill Nyghy. The formula of the film was basically the same, but the stakes much higher (Perseus must ultimately obtain the “Maguffin” to slay the monster to save the world) this time instead of just Argos city. I would really like to see a 3rd enty in this series, but the way events turn out in the end, I don’t see how this could be done. I know it sounds cliché’, but I would love to see an “All-Stars” Greek myth for a 3rd film. If they could somehow incorporate Perseus into a Jason and the Argonauts story (which would also include Heracles) , that might be fun. I was not overly fond of the first film, but anyone who liked “Clash” (2010), should definitely see “Wrath” (2012)
