Just for fun: Let's talk about a potential Godzilla anime.

For discussions covering more than one Toho film or show that span across more than one “era.”

At the moment, Godzilla is not as popular as he used to. So I'm not sure if a animated Godzilla movie could do well depending on the word of mouth.

Good point.

On a side note, I think a lot of the Millennium era films would have been better animated, especially after seeing the manga version of Godzilla 2000. It's sad when a tie in product is better than the actual film.

I can easily see Godzilla x MechaGodzilla as an anime. Think of it, you have a hot female pilot with an emo personality (remind you of a certain blue haired Evangelion pilot?), a guy with a vengeful attitude over the death of his brother, the horny awkward doctor, an unnecessary child character, and the whole development of Kiryu as more than just a machine.

An animated series starring Kiryu does sound cool. Actually, a television series of ANY sort would probably work to Kiryu's benefit, as it would allow more time to expand upon his complex origin.

Always good to see a dream I've had for so long reappear in multiple threads, this is at least the 4th time ;) . As I've always said, a Godzilla anime would be great if done by Go Nagai.

As far as what has been stated earlier in this thread, no particular era in Anime history or genre should be overgeneralized. My personal favorite era is 1972 to 1983. I'll agree that the "look" of the anime form late 80's to 1994 was probably the best (more OVA's and less TV series) but they should not be stereotyped by ultra violence and hentai like scenes. There were some decent anime of that time as well. I dont really like the look of most modern anime with few exceptions, and those usully fall into a genre I usually am already familiar with, I dont think there is a totaly "New" anime that has impressed me (as in not based on something else) in quite some time.
There has never been a "Scientifically Accurate" Dinosaur portrayed on any Television Show, Movie, or Documentary. Only what the human imagination can conceive, and I'm ok with that.

A Kiryu themed anime would be interesting.

What would you guys think of a Godzilla anime if the design on the right was used?:

I wouldn't mind a Godzilla anime. It would actually work better than the films since Godzilla's design and abilities could work better without the need for CGI. I could easily expect a Godzilla anime being made, and it would probably make Godzilla a more dangerous opponent.

So I heard a rumor once many years ago that Cartoon Network had acquired the rights to make a Gamera cartoon.
that was like10 years ago or something. Would have been cool I but guess it was just a rumor.

I've heard this too, I believe it was right around the time Gamera: The Brave was released.

I wouldn't mind one. Maybe it could be a light comedy/slice of life about the monsters living in their own modern day city on Monster island. Destroying human cities would be like their part time jobs or something.

Considering this forum is one of the more "conservative" places regarding Godzilla, this surprises me.

And yes, Godzilla Trinity, though the head is supposed to look like this:

http://hellbender93.deviantart.com/art/GOJIRA-291156348

...Before anyone talks shit about that design note that I'm considering turning it into an original character and NOT GODZILLA. I'm gonna go for an homage style character like Lizzy from Rampage or Togera from War of the Monsters.

^Well, I would keep the head for Trinity the way it is. That new one looks too much like a Jurassic Park Raptor.

I think it was around 2006 as well. The last season of Justice League Unlimited featured an opening battle with a very Gamera-like Turtle in Japan. Of course it was never named, but fans knew what it was.
