So, I was watching PONIES the Anthology 2, and one of my favorite parts was Spike doing Shinji's ending rant for NGE. Then I thought. Shinji's dub voice was Spike Spencer. So Spike was Shinji who was voiced by another Spike. That alone made this one amazing for me.

Two items of interest to report:

EqD has scans of the backs of a bunch of trading cards: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2012/07/mlp-trading-description-scans.html Pretty cool stuff, for the most part. Derpy is conspicuously absent, though. I wonder what the deal with that is. Trouble with her name, maybe? I'd be perfectly fine if they had to call her 'Ditzy Doo'. The set just doesn't seem complete without her.

Also, it seems Hasbro is making an attempt at releasing official plushies:



They aren't too bad. The heads are a little hippo-ish, but I've seen worse. The ones pictured were found at a Target in Alaska; apparantly the official widespread release date is July 29th. If they look good up close, I may have to get them.

So, another topic I don't think has been discussed around here yet: What are your favorite FIM character designs? Ponies or otherwise. Not the personalities, but just visually. Two of mine:

- Queen Chrysalis. Easily my favorite villain design. Nightmare Moon and Discord can give her a run for he money in terms of personality, backstory, etc, but visually she's the clear winner. The fangs, the green, draconic eyes, the stringy, plant-like blue hair, the mis-shapen horn, the bug wings, the corroded, swiss-cheese hooves. She's a great combination of FIM pony cuteness and creepy swamp monster. Just an excellent design all-around.

- Fluttershy. 'D'awww' personified. The combination of pale yellow and light pink, the eyes, the long mane she can hide behind. Too damned cute.

For me:

- Spike. Don't know why, but he has that Godzilla/dinosaur/Charmander look going for him. Secret of my Excess and Dragon Quest increased my respect for him. I expect him to have yet another growth spurt one of these days.

- Discord. Why not? Voiced by the guy that voiced Q, using chaos as magic, everything about him is cool.

I really like Discord's mismatched, serpentine design. Fitting for such a goofy, fun, and occasionally monstrous spirit of chaos and disharmony.

And I skreeonk LOVE Chrysalis's eyes. Beautiful and evil. That shot of fake Cadence singing where the lights dim to leave only her eyes blazing in the dark? Shivers, every time.

A lot of other villains have cool designs as well- the dragons, the Diamond Dogs, the manticore, the timber wolves, and the hydra off the top of my head. I also like the very stylized phoenix designs.

Ya' know, there's a distinct lack of pony in this pony post...

I can only think of one right now. I love Luna's look from Luna Eclipsed onwards. I dunno the exact reason, I just always found her design a whole lot more appealing than the one she had in the start of the series.
