Well then. This is interesting. I suggest we stop where we are right now.
But I, that am not shaped for sportive tricks
Nor made to court an amorous looking-glass;
I, that am rudely stamped, and want love's majesty
To strut before a wanton ambling nymph.

Well in the first Mechagodzilla film at least. In the second they have melted faces.

I thought it was odd how they're shapeshifting mutants in Godzilla Legends #3 yet called Simians.

There's nothing wrong about custom nicknames. As long as they're considered as such.
Every film should have at least one animal attack.

Maybe in TOM Toho just didn't want to spend as much on props. If they are shapeshifters, it doesn't look like they are very good at it just looking at them in GvMG & TOM

I doubt that was the issue. It probably had something to do with Honda, or Nakako not being satisfied with the look of the Black Hole Aliens in 1974, and wanted to try something different.

There isn't anything to suggest that they are "shape shifters". There is simpy no in-universe explanation for why they look different in both films.

Maybe that's how they should have looked in the first place. My initial thought with the ape look was due to all of the Planet of the Apes movies that had been made recently before that.... Assuming Toho wanted to capitalize on their popularity at the time, and hoping it would spill over for their movie

that never occurred to me as a kid, but it has in more recent years. having become a big fan of 70's and 80's italian cinema i've learned that a profitable thing to do back then was to take certain elements from popular films and stick them in your movie. sounds plausible with the monkey business in GvMG.

on a side note, my little girl will not watch that film anymore, as she is terrified of the monkeys now for some reason.

Right on. Lol with those noises they make combined with their look, I can't blame her. They never came across as very friendly in "simian" form. No telling how I would have responded to them at a younger age
