Anguirus' spikes

In the publicity photos, why is his spikes always ripped from his back or split in two? I don't remember that happening in Godzilla Raids Again or any of the other movies.

The model used for GRA's publicity photos was a pre-production maquette. No idea why they exaggerated its features, however. Maybe the advertising department just thought it looked cool.

Those pics always did disturb me for some reason. Like a turtle coming out of his shell.

It would explain why an inaccurate review of GRA I read said Anguirus was winged.

Both. With some insect wings lining his tail.

IDK why I guess they thought it was cool. But when they got to the film and having to make the suit not so much.

Just my own personal guess.

It may have been meant to make Anguirus look tougher, like a puffer fish puffing out to intimidate predators.

Fortunately, later incarnations had the spiked carapace firmly attached.

It's a cool design. Just not for Anguirus. Save it for a new monster.

I kinda like the flapped look. Makes 'I'm seem flexible and agile. Like an armored speedster. The rigid carapace has to be at least a little hard to move in.

Actually in Raids Again his carapace is split in two. My guess is it could come apart, never did. Because I just watch a clip where you can see a firm line going down his carapace, separation the two half's.

If they ever use that in a movie it could be like a frilled lizard trying to scare a predator.

Ok, so was his shell splitting in two just a part of the final disign? I mean did they intended it to do that?

I always just though it was just bad flaw in the suit like being able to see the zipper or something.

It would have been awesome if he did against Godzilla before they fought!

I have a book with a photo with this, it was a composite shot with the 1954 G suit in the backround but the A suit had the split carapace. The book also called Angy "The fire breathing Armadillo".

Dead serious.
