Anguirus 68 is one of my top 5 kaiju for sure (along with Godzilla 64, Rodan 56, King Ghidorah 68 and Mechagodzilla 75). I'd love to see a similar Angy in LPG.

Probably one of the more likely revivals. I'd be surprised if we didn't see him and Rodan at least (in sequels, if not the first). Personally, I'd like to see Mothra more than anyone else (Angy second), but I wonder if a studio like Legendary would see the appeal of such a non-monstrous monster.

quick question: does anyone know what color the original suit was? Was it brown like the '68 suit, or a different color?

The one made for The Volcano Monsters was reddish in appearance, so we can assume this was the same for the '55 costume.

Red, huh? I don't think I even knew they made a second suit.

Would you mind giving your source?

Check the cutting room on the main site for further details:

In Steve Ryfle's commentary for GRA, a brief interview with one of the people who was working on the project mentions that the costume was reddish.

Toho seems to like red monsters.

Anguirus red...... I have trouble picturing that. Thanks for the help, though.

Actually, Nakajima said in a very old interview (from a 90's issue of G-Fan, I'd have to double check on which one) that the original Anguirus and Godzilla costumes were brown.

I like him because:
- He was the first ever monster to fight Godzilla.
- His name is similar to mine : Angus

Japanese Man 2: It looks like Godzilla, but due to international copyright laws - it's not.
Man 1: STILL! WE SHOULD RUN LIKE IT IS GODZILLA!
Man 2: Though it isn't.

I was under the impression that Toho made new suits for the Volcano Monsters projects. The Godzilla suit in particular has a really weird "missing link" quality between '55 and the '62 suit. I wouldn't be surprised if the suit was painted differently.

Oh they definitely did, but I was commenting on the color of the suits actually used in RAIDS AGAIN. :)

Since there is only that one pic in existence (in B&W no less) of the two suits built for THE VOLCANO MONSTERS, I don't think we'll ever know what the color scheme of them was.

I like Anguirus. He's basic, but awesome cause of that, and he's the type of kaiju that'll show up in many games and comics.

It would have been neat to have had him in Godzilla versus Mechagodzilla II, and fight Mechagodzilla! G-Force already had plans to ship Godzilla to the Bonin Islands so it would have been nice to have another Monster Island.

I'd like to know what the official explanation on Anguirus's origin is? Did Godzilla just happen to stumble onto another island with another prehistoric beast?

And if the Destroy All Monsters is a second Anguirus, and all the other monsters were already established, was he the original monster on Monster Island?

Same here, Anguirus is beast. The closest we'll probably get to that is that one shape-shifting monster:

I do like the original suit's more formidable, crocodile-like face. However, considering how Anguirus became more or less a protagonist in the later films, it probably just as well his design was modified.
