If you could change ANY ONE thing about the Godzilla Films

For discussions covering more than one Toho film or show that span across more than one “era.”

The original suit doesn't fit the tone of the sixties films at all. Using it would not make any sense.

That doesn't mean they needed to change him as drastically as they did. Granted, '56 Rodan looks pretty malevolent, and I can understand the need to adjust this, but the 60's designs look sloppy and dopey to me.

I love it. It's an incarnation that gushes with character and personality and is easily my favorite incarnation of Rodan. I'd much rather the sixties design over the relatively bland '56 suit, the bobble-headed chump that is the '93 promp, or the walking anime character that is the FW one.

Granted, that is still my favorite design for Rodan period. Looks like a de-goof'd sixties Rodan and it's wonderful.

I admit, the '65 version has started to grow on me, but I still don't care for the '64 version, and the '68 version is atrocious.

Perhaps my prejudice stems from my first viewings of GHIDORAH, THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER. I was excited when Rodan began to emerge from Mt. Aso, anticipating my favorite kaiju's reveal ---- then his head poked out, and I was very disappointed with what I saw. This Rodan didn't look the least bit intimidating.

The only Rodan suit I would think about replacing would be the atrocious '68 one. The other 60's ones are actually really good imo.

Let's see what ONE! g-movie i would change?
Adding Battra to Godzilla Tokyo SOS.

Why? It's, because i don't like the idea of Mothra the goddess of peace declaring war, it should be Battra that declares war.

I just thought of another one, adding Rodan to Godzilla vs Megaguirus. Why? Because i think Megaguirus is more of a Rodan villain.

The original Rodan is one the most realistic suits Tsuburaya ever created.

I agree with Tyler. I don't like the movie it appears in, but the design ain't "bland".

IIRC, the '68 suit is the same as the one from '65, which explains it's deteriorated look. It's a shame there wasn't $ in the budget for DAM to build a new one. If there had been, we may had seen Rodan return in the 70's; because let's face it, that's the only reasons Anguirus returned several times. His suit was in prime condition, and looked good enough to be put in front of the camera even years after DAM.

I've been thinking about the Rodan suits - in particular, the feathery-fringe look apparent in a lot of concept art such as the one TV mentioned. I presume this harkens back to when Rodan was intended to be a more Archeopteryx-like beast.

For a long time, I disliked this design; I thought it just didn't look right. However, within the last year or so I noticed that the '56 suit actually bears this look somewhat.
What's more, I realized it reminded me of something else, which actually did look really good:

Now I really am interested in seeing how a Rodan suit utilizing this design would look.

^ And what exactly is wrong with Minya?

Minya, as a character, was just fine and used to great effect in Son Of Godzilla, and for great comedic bits in Destroy All Monsters. Honestly, neither of those films would have been the same without Minya.

I dunno ghidorasaurus, what about GINO or Final Wars? ;)

As for Minya, he's great. Granted, I wouldn't mind the face being changed just a little bit so it looks like Godzilla, but I find his suit and personality to be really enjoyable.

Your last post doesn't make it sound like that, since you said you would "erase Godzilla's only mistake".

Also, who the hell cares if Minya doesn't look exactly like Godzilla? Who said that he needed to? Especially since Minya is Godzilla's adopted son.

Looks like ghidosaurus just opened up that old can of worms again..

I agree with both Megalon-5 and GxG. The thing is, the people who don't like Minya can never by coaxed into liking him, so any attempts at defending the character are always pointless. It's always the same old complaints, time and time again.

"But he's so ugly!!"

"His movies suck!!"

"Why did never grow up?!"

The only legitimate one is that people wished he looked more like his adoptive father, and that, I can agree with.

I don't see the resemblance. At all.

Especially since Minya came before Gary Coleman, so it would be the other way around: Gary Coleman looks like Minya.
