I'm seriously loving Zach Howard's default Godzilla design he's come up with. It's like GMK crossed with a skreeonk Bear. It's wonderful. I hope he continues to provide covers for a long time coming.

Also, the notion of a Billionaire adventurer high-jacking Mechagodzilla is an exciting notion. Very interested to see how it pans out!

Not that I have anything against Anguirus, but there are so many other monsters that could appear first.

I knew MG had to be brought in SOMEHOW. It's great to hear that he wasn't left to rust. ;) Wonder about Ghidorah, though... But I'm sure Duane will use those of KOM (SpaceG included). If not, oh well. It's a story of a man against Godzilla.

Mechagodzilla looks amazing in that cover. Can't wait to see how Gane draws him...

Likewise. And get away from that damned Heisei look. making him that puny and bobble-headed is beyond annoying.

Eh, from the way KOM was looking, it seemed that the Millennium Rodan was going to be used when Hester was on the art job. Elements of the Millennium appear in Santos' version, too. However, like most of the other monsters in the art run of Santos, they're just loosely inspired by a certain form of the kaiju. And if you look closely at Rodan in Godzilla #1, he has two crest horns rather than three. Heisei Rodan had three crests, this one only has two. But we'll need more pictures of Rodan for that... Hopefully issue 4 will give us some nice shots!

Santos's Rodan seemed like the Trendmasters toy version.

And whatsamatta wit Heisei Rodan design wise? He looks like a big mutated pterosaur. I agree that he looked stiff and goofy in motion(like most Heisei monsters), but I feel like they nailed the look.

If we're going from the source material of the original film, Rodan isn't technically mutated. But I won't split hairs that badly. The Heisei design is just generally puny with a huge awkward head and doesn't look like he has any business being a top dog kaiju like he used to be at one time.

I want "Monster Zero Two" back. The kaiju that could give Godzilla a fair fight and was called upon for rental services from Aliens.

Wasn't the Heisei Rodan Uranium mutated? Yeah, IIRC Anguirus, Gorosaurus, Rodan, Titanosaurus etc, were just freakishly large prehistoric beasts. And you're right, Rodan hasn't really been tough since Monster Zero. It would be cool if he was on par with Goji again for sure. Though if you scale Heisei Rodan up to equal size with Godzilla he would've kicked his ass...

Yes, thank goodness MG will appear, seeing as he has been so under-utilized in these comics thus far :P ;) Seriously, as much as I like showa MG and Kiryu, at this point, I am getting flat out bored/tired of MG period in these comics, regardless of whatever version. Would like to see something new...

And I am in total agreement about KG...KG is Godzilla's towering arch nemesis and most powerful foe...yet, he has yet to make any substantial appearance in these titles other than a cameo here or there (and no, I am not counting the pathetic GMK KINO's-KG in name only- appearance in the awful KOM title...that was pathetic and disgraceful)...

This. According to Bobby Curnow, he has stated on several occasions that, contrary to popular belief, TOHO has not restricted IDW on what versions of each kaiju they use. If this is indeed true, then it makes some of the decisions by the authors/artists of these comics even more bizarre and baffling...

You're not the only one...I had the same reaction. Seriously, Godzilla is battling Angilas *again*? :? The authors of these books seem to have man(kaiju) crushes on MG and Angilas. Hey, I love Angilas as much as the next fan and am always happy to see him appear, but some of the monster encounters in these IDW books are starting to become very redundant/stale, as they're not utilizing their original full roster of kaiju they have access to (showa KG, Gigan, and SpaceG immediately come to mind ). I was hoping for something new (like a fight with Gigan or showa King Ghidorah, his arch enemy, during the 60s). And why do I have the sneaking suspicion that when this mini-series' plot reaches the 90s/2000s time period, we will see yet *another* battle with MG? A little more creativity/originality would be nice in terms of the monster battles.

Oh well...this quibble aside, it still looks like a very interesting book w/ a unique idea for a plot line (Godzilla attacking Vietnam sounds very interesting...gee, so much for all the "You only criticize these comics because you don't like things that are new!" nonsense), and am definitely looking forward to it...looks far more interesting than the main title thus far...

Well, Bobby did say something about bringing Ghidorah back and having peeps like you not to be disappointed. Be glad he shares the sentiments like the rest of us.

Um, I think that case is all but MechaG. I think MG is the only character that has different incarnations treated as different characters (so no GDF Showa MG or alien Kiryu).

I'm sure they're doing it again cuz KOM didn't give that fight justice, lol. And personally, I think that SpaecG will be used for issue 4 or 5.

Well, just because that design is on the cover doesn't mean it's going to be the one used in the comic.. but I sure would love to see Kiryu anyhow.

You're right, I didn't consider that. Seems like the kind of technicality that might irritate the Big T though. Then again, everything seems to irritate them.

And according to Jeff Zornow, his cover to KOM #5 originally had Showa Ghidorah on it until Toho made him redraw it into the GMK incarnation, so...?
