I remember Hedorah as an all over the place film. It really doesn't know what it wan't to be. It is a godzilla movie? It some kinda of drug enducing trip out movie? Or is it is a children's film aimed to bring an environmental message in the film? There were just too many different elements in the movie that didn't blend in with one another. Some parts were just really weird and dark and some parts were just plain silly.
I don't see how anyone could think
Godzilla vs. Hedorah is a children's film, when its easily the darkest and most disturbing Godzilla film since the original. Also,
Godzilla vs. Hedorah knows exactly what it wants to be: a '70s movie.
Godzilla vs. Hedorah is a product of the times. Banno wanted to make a statement about pollution while also having Godzilla in the film, so he decided to go all out. That's fine with me.
As for Son Of Godzilla I appreciated that it did something different but I just couldn't take it seriously (ok I don't really take any Godzilla film seriously, except for maybe the original) there are just so many silly moments I can't help but laugh. Its entertaining, but silly.
And examples of the film being silly would be...? Also, even if the film is silly, who cares? There are parts that are suppose to make you laugh, such as many scenes involving Minya. If they make you laugh, the movie is doing its job.
Silly is not a bad thing. It just means that
Son Of Godzilla has a more whimsical atmosphere than most Godzilla films.
As for Godzilla's Revenge I don't touch that film anymore. Son of Godzilla was funny but Revenge or All out Attack (never heard it called that) was just painful for me to watch.
All Monsters Attack is the true Japanese title. "Godzilla's Revenge" is just the American name for the film. Since the film was made in Japan, the proper title is
All Monsters Attack. Just like it's not "Godzilla vs. Monster Zero", it's
Invasion Of Astro-Monster. It's not "Godzilla vs. The Thing", it's
Mothra vs. Godzilla.
