That shot in Godzilla raids again were he's just standing there while the plane fly's overhead.

I find it annoying how in some of the Showa films(Terror of MechaGodzilla particularly) a monster goes flying from a hit and they move upwards. :freak:

I realize that there's only so much you can do with a prop and some cables, but yeah, it is kind of an eyesore.

Not sure if someone's already mentioned this, but there's a scene in GFW, I believe it's right before Godzilla fights Zilla, where he's about to come out of the water and onto the shore. But it just looks so...strange. Very jerky looking.

Definitely not the worst effect ever, but it really stood out for me since Godzilla making landfall is a scene that has to have been done countless times, but not as odd as it did here.

I always cringe at this:
Image
It is like the monsters have no legs or the rest of their body has sank into the ground. There was also a shot like that in TOMG and also a 50's B Movie, War of the Colossal Beast in 1958.

Japanese Man 2: It looks like Godzilla, but due to international copyright laws - it's not.

..It doesn't look like he's "sunk into the ground" at all. It's a little something called perspective, and that's likely what Gaira would look like from that angle. He is only about 25 meters, after all.

The shot that you're referring to in TOMG is bad though.

It just doesn't seem right to me.

*shrugs*. It looks better compared to a similar shot in MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA, where Godzilla is waaaaaayy to big.

The scene where the mother and her child run away from the Giant Octopus, they're colored dark blue and barely look like humans for how bad the composite shot is. Oh yeah and the stop motion octopus tentacle snatching the one islander makes me LOL every time.

Both are from KKvG

I could be wrong, but that's probably before Toho invested in the expensive optical printer, which made the composites in the films that followed considerably better.

I like the stop motion tentacle, personally. Looks a lot better than Godzilla jump kicking Kong later on in the movie. :P

I think the sheer epicness of KING KONG VS. GODZILLA makes up for any modern views of the special effects.

Not a bad Special Effect but I was just wondering. The ape monster alien dude on the ferry in GvMG (1974), when he gets flipped over the side, was a dummy used?

Don't know if anyone mentioned this earlier, but the Heisei/Millenium marionettes are sometimes notably worse (or at least not not improved despite advances in technology) than those in the Showa films. Hell, you could actually see Megaguirus's strings at one point!

I have to go the asteroid fight in Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla. it was pretty bad.
Another one would have to be the stop motion/puppet thing from Godzilla returns. It was so odd and looked nothing like the full suit.

Don't forget the Destroyah vs Tanks scene. Or M11 running.

I'd probably go with the CGI effects in Godzilla vs Megaguirus, they look awful.

Has anyone ever entertained the thought that Sony actually did a really decent, detailed master for MEGAGUIRUS, and that the wires appear to be missing from the Toho DVD and HD version because they are amateurish transfers? I know this is the case with GvsMG74; some have said that Toho removed several instances of prominent wires from that movie, but in reality Toho's transfer was just blurry and gave the impression of that.
