Because we need more pink Godzillas.

You sure that's not just TemptingToys marking everything up like they usually do? :P

And hey, if you got to sculpt kaiju figures as a hobby/job, I'm sure you'd like to get paid too.

Crappy as the Varan sculpt is, I was just stoked to have a Varan... until the damn thing fell off a shelf and lost an arm.

Go look on YJ and see the auctions for the 2 snakes in a bag and tell me I am wrong. In regards to price, bear in mind that there are 6" toys NOT as well made as Bandais. In fact there is no comparison. So if you are ok buying a brand new flimsy 6" figure for $50 and up, all the power to you.
MOST dealers were selling the Bandai 6" line for $12-$15 when they were brand new.
You can try to justify whatever you want to say about the size of their company, etc. Those Kongs were unlicensed and still cost about $55 each brand new.

Same company. I think they made that name up to avoid legalities.

When The Bandai Kongs were being sold in the mid 90's, many dealers were asking $25. Some were getting just $23. Say what you want about the suit, the toy looks just like the suit.
The Raymundo ? Do you think that 6" toy can compare to Bandai's 8" ? They were about $50 and up brand new.

Maybe not, but there are a number of 6'' Bandai's that go for way more, and if collectors are willing to pay $90-$100 for a Titanosaurus, I dont think $50-$60 for a Megalon or Manda is too unbelievable.

So if you are ok buying a brand new flimsy 6" figure for $50 and up, all the power to you.

I bought their 2nd Megalon mold. Not flimsy at all, and the sculpt is nicer than the Bandai one, so...

Yeah, who needs justification when you can just accuse them of being greedy?

Those Kongs were unlicensed and still cost about $55 each brand new. [/b][/color]

Eh. I'd rather an unlicensed Kong figure at $55 than a licensed one at $150.

Well, it's still cheaper than Bandai Kongs are now.

Titanosaurus is actually a well made toy and cost just $12-$15 when it brand new. Use that as a comparison, not the aftermarket prices some 10 years later.

I bought their 2nd Megalon mold. Not flimsy at all, and the sculpt is nicer than the Bandai one, so...

Again, is it fair to even compare, considering the Bandai is now over 20 years old? But hey, I paid about $80 for the large built-up Marmit Megalon kit that runs circles around the Y-MSF, so I'd say that's a much better, far more recent example.

Eh. I'd rather an unlicensed Kong figure at $55 than a licensed one at $150.

I'd prefer a figure that actually looks good. And I paid $15 for my licensed Kong back in 1993 when it was brand new. $55 for a little, unlicensed Raymundo Kong that doesn't really look all that great is a joke.

Well, it's still cheaper than Bandai Kongs are now.

No offense man, but i think you posts pretty sum up the reasoning behind the vehement defense Y-MSF gets. "Well, it's in the 6" scale that I like and it's cheaper than the Bandais* so therefore it's good."

*which, despite being better made, licensed toys, have always been FAR cheaper than the Y0MSF figures when brand new. IMHO the price you pay for them doesn't really mesh well with the quality of the toy you're actually getting.

And finally, is THIS the Y-MSF Ebirah everyone is going on about...?

Holy crap that thing looks terrible. Yes, Bandai never did one. But if they did I'm positive it would look a million times better than that chubby thing.

I'm not a rich man but $100-$150 is not a lot of money if you are a collector of similar items. I also don't buy cheaper items based on price. I buy for many different reasons, but the biggest reason is the quality.

Well, we dont live 10 years in the past anymore. I mean, it's cool that it was super cheap when it came out, but that's no longer the case now.

Yeah, these are pricey for being brand new, but when you're comparing friggin' BANDAI to some dude who does this on his own basically, it's just as unfair a comparison.

Again, is it fair to even compare, considering the Bandai is now over 20 years old? But hey, I paid about $80 for the large built-up Marmit Megalon kit that runs circles around the Y-MSF, so I'd say that's a much better, far more recent example.

It depends on what you're looking for, really.

I'm not a big spender, I like my figures accurate to the suits, and my preferred scale is 6-inchs, so the Bandai and Y-MSF Megalons are right up my alley. And since one tends to be cheaper than the other, and has a nicer sculpt, I go with YMSF.

I like the Bandai one well enough. Picking something else over it isnt a knock against it.

In the case of the Marmit Megalon kit, I'd imagine it would cost even more to get one, and not only that, I'd have no place to put it, lol. So when I say "I think this is the better figure," or "I prefer this over that" it just means it's not what I'm after.

I'd prefer a figure that actually looks good. And I paid $15 for my licensed Kong back in 1993 when it was brand new. $55 for a little, unlicensed Raymundo Kong that doesn't really look all that great is a joke.

Looks fine to me, honestly.

No offense man, but i think you posts pretty sum up the reasoning behind the vehement defense Y-MSF gets. "Well, it's in the 6" scale that I like and it's cheaper than the Bandais* so therefore it's good."

So I cant defend something I like because "expert collectors" dont like it? :|

And finally, is THIS the Y-MSF Ebirah everyone is going on about...?

Again, looks fine to me. It's no Xplus, certainly, but for me it looks enough like the real Ebirah that I'd be cool with it.

I guess I just have a lower standard than you guys do. But then I dont think thats a bad thing; I appreciate what I have.

Bottom line for me is that I'm happy to have Y-MSF making figures. IMO their Gabara is as good or better than any other sculpt made by other popular companies that have made the character. Gabara isn't their only good figure, and the price point IMO is justified if people are willing to pay it, and who here actually knows the cost of making these Y-MSF figures? We can speculate all we want.

Sure I'm not a fan of the end result of some of their figures, but I'm not going to write off the entire company line of product because I don't like some, a fair amount, or even the majority of their figures. Good can come from everything, and their are lessons to learn from failure and being wrong.
Maybe I just like rooting for the underdog, but I feel that the problem we all face sometime is that one thinks that they have to choose sides and have an opinion on everything. Only to find themselves boxed into a corner and left feeling as they can't change their mind.
Don't be too hard on one another.

Regardless, I'd wager the odds of actually getting this thing are incredibly low.
