Who ever told you that lied.

We had a huge discussion about this in the original TGTW thread, and simon came in and proved the kid wrong.

He said that he downloaded a Rom of STE and hacked it so Biollante was playable, but the only traces of Bio on the disc is coding for her beam... that's it.

This rules. I'd love to see this. Kamoebas with a move like this would be very interesting. Also, ebirah'smeg pitched Giant Condor as a summon for Ebirah, and that sounds pretty genius too--that'd be a very interesting rage attack/finisher/whatevs. Both moves are unique and really dig into what makes the monsters and their movies fun.

In a similar vein, Showa Mogeura summoning Mysterian ships would be pretty rad. Really any monster that had minions has a great rage move in the form of calling them in to swarm an opponent (Destoroyah and Megaguirus for sure).

^I know Megaguirus had something like that in G:STE,but it'd be awesome if Destoroyah could do the same.*pictures aggregates popping out of the ground and swarming*

I've got some sets done for Monster X,Battra Imago, and Gabara.By later today or tomorrow, I should have a set for the others. In the mean time here they are:

I'm pretty damn happy that Gorosaurus is so high up on the list. I'm not really sure how he did it, but it shows that there is support for the character.

I apologize but like I said, I am not going to change already sent submissions just to keep things simple for the time being. Sorry but I should note this isn't permaneant, just a priliminary tally for Mr. Strange before he makes his official forum which without a doubt should have an official system.

No..Biollante was, in fact playable on the version that Simon had, but it was something he could only access at the Pipeworks offices, IIRC. Pretty sure he talked about it in the exact same topic where that kid got 'owned'.

None of the shipped versions of the game had her in the game. There were however traces of her, but that's about it.

It's so weird that THIS is the issue that won't die...

Ok, once more for the folks in the cheap seats:

1 - We had Biollante in a playable state near the end of StE development.
2 - The decision was made to cut her from the game.
3 - I kept her on my development kit, because I hoped that I could get her back in, somehow. (I'm a romantic).
4 - We shipped the game without her. One of her effect files (her poison weapon) was still bundled in with the other effect files - it had the name "Biollante.edf" - some hacker saw that filename on the disc, and got excited. But that was only the visuals for her weapon, and it couldn't be used without her other data - which was never on any disc.
5 - The version of the game with Biollante still intact sat on my development kit for a year or two - but that was an original Xbox development kit, which nobody has any use for these past 7 years, so in all probability that kit was recycled.

It's totally useful, and I appreciate you keeping up with it. I haven't had much to say in this thread, because Grayshot is handling things well without me.

May Update! Simon talks about negotiations with Toho

Postby Mr. Strange » Wed May 23, 2012 3:44 pm

Ok, I just off the phone with the Toho representative. There is good news and bad news.

The good news is, we had a great conversation.

The bad news is, Toho will absolutely not get involved in the project without money up-front.

WHAT THIS MEANS:

This means that I need to raise money for the project without claiming that it will have any ties to Toho, or Godzilla. Obviously that is the intent, but I can't raise money for "a Godzilla game" without a license agreement from Toho. So I will be looking to raise money for "Kaiju Combat" - and talk about how it will offer a platform which can serve as the basis for any license - like Godzilla.

I can talk about my past Godzilla games, and do everything in my power to imply that Godzilla and crew will be part of Kaiju Combat. But Toho will not agree to be involved in the project until I have money in hand to present to them. In fact, even money in hand does not guarantee that they will grant me the license to include Godzilla - that entire negotiation starts after the money is in place.

Now, Toho is a shrewd company, and I doubt they would turn down a large check. Part of building a business relationship is respect & trust - and part of the way I need to show them respect is to not imply their involvement with the project during the fund-raising period. This means that I absolutely do not want members of this community crying foul, or saying anything negative about Toho taking this approach. I want all contributors to be part of the creative process - and that starts now with your behavior. So keep it clean.

NEXT STEPS:

Next I need to put together the Kickstarter proposal. I would very much appreciate help from a person or two with an artistic eye, or anyone with web design skills. Getting together a slick & professional pitch is probably the most important part of this project.

Interesting developments.

This is going to be a somewhat tricky idea to pitch.

Are you going to be the spokesperson then? Kickstarter pages need video proposals, so are you going to be the "face" of the project? I'm just wondering, because you seem to be the ideal person if not.

I assume Matt Frank will be lending some of his skills to the proposal? We definitely need a name and a logo, correct?

What if someone asks if Godzilla will be in the game?

"That is unknown at this time."

??? I mean you're the Godzilla-game-guy, and when people know you're going to make another giant monster fighting game, they'll ask whether or not Godzilla will be in it.

Can you even say you're trying to get the license? "As of now Toho has no involvement, but we are working toward it." This is really tricky.

So a "Godzilla game" cannot be made, nor put together until Toho is on board and sees that you have money to back things up. Well that is business for you, but at least they aren't turning the idea completely down and just shutting the door.

Although, personally to me, from the sound of things, your better off at making an original monster fighting game with Godzilla included as a Guest/Secret Character.

I will absolutely use my past experience with Godzilla as a selling point. I'll phrase the potential relationship with Toho gently:

-------------------------------------
Kickstarter Goal : $300,000.

What will we do if we get more than the goal? First and foremost, we will be seeking a big-name license to attach to the project. We can't cut any deals before we have funding, but the more $$ we raise on top of base costs the more attractive an offer we can make to companies like Toho, Daiei, Hasbro, Sony, and so forth. We'll be soliciting opinions from our contributors as to which license(s) are the best fit for the game. Obviously fans would love to see Godzilla again, but we're keeping our options open for now.

A sad development, but things can work. Stress the term "Godzilla-inspired" perhaps, since it's specific enough to attract attention but vague enough to not get you sued.

This.

If you can get enough cash to convince Toho to let you use Godzilla and co then awesome, if not then you at least attracted the interest of G-Fans for an all original monster game which is still awesome.

Well this is going to hurt us, theirs a lot of people who said they'd pay money for Godzilla only and then their are people who still won't trust the working on getting the license part.

While I'm not mad a TOHO I wished they would have just went with Mr. Strange's word considering he's worked on 3 games for them instead of asking for the money first that would have made getting the money a lot easier.

Obviously I agree, but I'm willing to start from the beginning to build trust. There are lots of thing besides money-up-front which hinge on trust. Off the top of my head better trust between Toho and myself could facilitate:

Easy inclusion of original monsters.
Multiple Toho monster packs in the future.
Integration of non-standard Toho concepts (from comics, for example...)
Better cross-promotion and integration with other Toho marketing.
More direct fan-input into future Toho films.
Universe-crossovers (Godzilla vs. Stay Puft vs. Gamera!)
Multiple era-crossovers (Godzilla vs. Godzilla!) - Which Toho wouldn't allow before.
